Huh ? Hong Kong was a full blown British colony. It was transfered over to China in 1997 as part of a new treaty. Up until then it was not property of China at all even though China wanted to claim it for many many years since signing the original rights away to the British Empire after the British claimed it for themself.

So the real outrage from Hong Kong should have come in 1997 yet they were Oh so happy to part ways with the British Empire. Now they are in for a future of real hurt brought to you by the Chinese, I shed no tears for them.

Yeah their problem is the same problem that Tibet, Turkestan, Outer Mongolia face, the Chinese government will just send hordes and hordes of Mainlanders to settle in HK and slowly change the demographics of the territory

Yes. You are absolutely right.
HK peoples often complaint about the mainlanders go to HK to deliver their babies there, so they can get residential right. I believe currently mainlanders still have to apply for permission to travel to and stay in HK for an extended period of time.

This will get worse. China might have suspended the bill for now but the 1 country 2 systems agreement is ending in 2047. Exactly the authoritarian behaviour people see from the Hong Kong Police force is what the type of authoritarian rule they are protesting against.

I feel for the people of Hong Kong. Now way China will back down on this, they stand to lose too much face and that is something they are terrible at. Hong Kong is only valuable for the pool of skills that reside there. If they moved away to other free neighboring countries like Singapore etc that would probably be the best option.
