Sheesh dude, if this is the kind of reaction the chap is getting out of you, rather ignore him and move along. No need to be rude to rude people. The best thing you can do is just ignore, don't get dragged down to other people's level of discourse.

No worries, just returning his 'bluntness'. Wont drag it on.

Live forever? No thanks.
Also, good luck to the Rooskies. Me, I think we'll have warp drives and bases in Andromeda before we achieve immortality or end wars.

Having finally finished watching the (long) video - they're certainly ambitious aren't they? Look, I for one hope they get it right - it'd be a fantastic future to live in. Usually though, the future is anything but what we imagine it to be :)

The "soul" = electric pulses in the brain. If anyone has any peer reviewed scientific evidence to the contrary, please share.

We know this how? Interesting idea.

If anyone has any peer reviewed scientific evidence to the contrary, please share.

The only thing we can be certain about with regards to a soul, is that we know nothing about it :p
Proving anything about it would be pretty darn significant.

The idea of a soul is religious/philosophical based, the idea is not entertained in science. The people we are is determined by our dna and our brain. Past experiences, upbringing, social groups and education are a few major things that make an impact. Thing is we cant be 100% the same if we go through something like this, our brain will know we are not in the original body and we will change because of this.

Soul or not, do you really think people need to live forever in whatever shape or form?

Probably half the planet could die out today without any loss to sustainability or progress of humanity as a whole, and now they wanna give these people immortality? Ugh.

Very interesting stuff here.

If you think it impossible, just look at how far we have come since 1979 (as far away from 2012 as 2012 is from 2045)

Exciting stuff.

Soul or not, do you really think people need to live forever in whatever shape or form?

Do you need to post on MyBB? No
Do you need a computer? No
Do you need the vast majority of material objects in your life? No
Whats your point again?

Also consider that a robotic version of you would likely require less resources to function and be way more productive, making him/her/it vastly more efficient than the flesh and bones counter part.

Maybe this is what the future of human evolution is all about, who knows?

Sorry to bring the whole soul issue up again, but tell me, if every human emotion, action etc. is catered for by the brain, what function is left for the soul? Outside the context of religion the word is meaningless.

Outside the context of religion the word is meaningless.

Then how do you distinguish from simply making a copy of yourself that shares your memories, and transferring yourself into another body?
You're not living forever then, you die and some robot imitates you afterwards. That might benefit other people, but it doesn't do you any good.

personally, i don't believe immortality makes any sense outside of our biology.
we want to live longer because we know our body is going to rot and that's going to be the end.
if we couldn't die, what would we do and why would we do it?
i can't think of much we do which doesn't have a biological imperative at its root.
