Anyone know if you can host a web page on your own machine ?
I would imagine this is a problem with IP changes on the IBurst network.
I want to fiddle with a personal / family home page and generally would like to learn more about hosting a simple web page.
There will be nothing commercial or anything just a one pager type thing so it shouldn't attract any serious traffic.
Anyone tried this ?

yeah its not a problem, install apache and php or whatever on yoru machine then serve away, you can use www.dyndns.org to get around the dynamic IP thing they can give you a free sub-domain hostname or you can link a proper domain to your dyndns account.

I webdev on my machine and use the same thing basically, although you won't learn much about hosting on a windows machine :p

Thanx

I will have a squiz at dyndns when I get home tonight. Cant get access from work. Either the site is down or our firewall is playing trix again.
I did have a quick lookie before though - isn't it only for ADSL subscribers?

PS: Yes Slim you are right - wont actually learn much on the windows hosting :D .

its not down so must be your firewall and its not for any type of customer, its for anyone who chooses to use it and any type of connection
