Hi Guys,

I am setting up an online radio station on my website, and am busy setting up my server through the webhost who specialises in streaming audio - they have given me 3 countries where I can host from..

USA
UK
Germany

Now my target market is locals, as we stream local electronic music...which country has the best connection to SA, or does this not matter?

Thanks in advance.

Why not approach antfarm.co.za? They're the leading provider of online radio stations in South Africa... their bandwidth is also overseas I think? Some might be locally.

I'd say Germany maybe your best bet because most cables terminate in France, and from France to Germany it's quicker (I stand to be corrected) than France to UK (seeing as their is a bit of ocean between them?). However, I've seen a huge speed increase between US and UK hosted stuff, so maybe UK? Up to you? What's the ping responses like between the two DC's?

Thanks for the response - got quotes from antfarm, unfortunately pricing was a huge issue and foreign hosting is the only way forward economically at this stage..

UK seems to get the best ping responses on average after several attempts but I think these things go up and down....I am swayed towards the UK however as I have another service hosted there that had excellent response time (but diff host)

From a friend of mine who is in the hosting business "its actually best to host in the the UK. latency around 160ms. which is ok. US can be slow to San Fran - 400ms"

For a local service, UK would be far better than US. Try get you server hosted on the Redbus/Telecity network. Far superior to anything else in the UK.
