How a dishonest WASP misled South Africans

finally the regulator doing something!!!

All WASP's should be illegal and one should only be able to buy them at app stores like Google Play etc.

No surprises that Mira is involved. Scummy WASP scammers.

Precisely why I have disabled all 3rd party billing on my CellC contract...

The other networks need to have a similar feature if you ask me. If anything, the 3rd party billing needs to be disabled by default, and can only be enabled by request.

They got the money why should they care ?
They will just open a new company and do the same thing again .
And so it goes .

Who even needs these WASPs really? I don't understand why they even exist & allowed to operate. Besides spamming people and stealing what else do they do ??? :wtf:

QFT! They add no value

Agreed. Each of the networks has some or other feature to protect users but they are all reactive. It is why I have the MTN one linked in my sig - hopefully people will find it and lock these bastards out!

Are there any honest WASPs out there? I mean, just one that offers a service that is useful and not over charge for it?

Can anyone just list 1?

What is the steps to take in order to disable all 3rd party billing? I want to take this step as an additional safeguard.

The problem (in my mind) is that the really dodgy WASPs are not members of WASPA. IMO it should be mandatory to be a member. Things won't be perfect, but it's a way forward.

I call bull****. All networks require a double-opt-in before billing can commence. This double-opt-in process is controlled by the networks. The SMS (or WAP site) contains both frequency and amount for the bill. If people have been billed without their knowledge the fault lies squarely with the networks.
