Well, in the UK if you're sweeping glass on a factory floor you're at least earning £6.50 an hour. That's enough to get a place to sleep and food, and if you're young it's fine. Here if you're reduced to becoming a household domestic, you can get as low as R2000 a month. I don't even know how to buy food for myself for that amount.

Except that he's a complete introvert.

Our construction site employees get paid R90 per day (the agreed upon rate with the municipality - some are even lower) so they are looking at R1800-R2000 per month but then they are absent as well for a few days, don't know why these guys just don't pitch for work, but that is still minimum wage, so what if the floor sweeper in the UK gets 6.50lbs per hour, you said in SA there wasn't a minimum wage. Doesn't matter if it is ***** tier wage it is still a minimum. . .

Oh and OP didn't say he was an introvert, just that he doesn't have the body to be a male pornstar or gigolo as was suggested and that he can't be a priest because he is an atheist and doesn't like confrontation, I also don't like confrontation when I'm in the wrong that does not equal being an introvert.

Plus afaik an introvert (by definition) is someone who gets his batteries recharged by being with himself and not a socially awkward person. . ..

Yeah, the troll smells strong here

What do you want me to do to prove I am not a troll?

I was accused of being ekstasis as well, it took me like weeks to realize why the hell everyone was typing ekstatis in my threads before I figured it out.

Nah. My lil' Corsa is only worth around R30k but it gets me from point A to B. Paid that bad boy off in a month or 2 and now I can focus on things that actually matter :)

I wouldn't recommend a Citi Golf. Most of my friends who've had them either had them stolen, broken into or they are so unreliable they just become a mess to maintain. My room mate has 1 and the amount of times I've had to go help him jump start it or even bring him petrol because the fuel gauge stopped working and showed him he had half a tank when he actually had nothing >.<

Also don't forget once you buy a car you need money to pay for insurance, petrol and services. Unless your parents are paying for that? Or I suppose that if you got a job to buy the car, you'd carry on with that and put that money to the running and maintenance of it.

Either way, I'm happy with my cheap "crap" car. Some days I wish it had aircon but then winter comes and it's all good again :p

What car would you recommend then?

PS: I dig your PC specs! I really wanna work for a car, but I really want a nice PC.

Are you bi-lingual? If you are, there are companies who do translations and are often keen to hire people on a part-time/weekend basis. I used to make quite easily R4000 per month extra just doing translations (English - Zulu - Zulu - English) partime when I had financial struggles in 2007... Lots of words though and you must be quite good in both languages to give credible translations. Good luck!

I can speak a little bit of Afrikaans, will there really be a 'aanvraag' (lol) for English to Afrikaans translations or vice-versa? My English is pretty darn good if I do say so myself. At least for someone my age.

That may be in part, due to my lack of friends and spending all my time on the internet.

I don't think anyone specifically looks to become a porter at a hotel. My theory is that you set a goal and you take every opportunity you get to make that a reality.

Okay, okay, my goal is to get a job right now - or is that too short term.

Do you know of any agencies that will get me a job as a porter?

Is being a porter a crappy job?

I see no reason why I can't be all of the above or below huehuehuehue (see sig)

Do you have any hobbies, skills. did you finish matric, are your marks high - good enough marks could mean your first year at varsity is paid for.
Do you know anyone that sells/imports things, or check out bidorbuy, visit your local Chinese Mall and see if there is anything you could resell on bidorbuy for a profit, it can be done and you dont need to have cash.
Most restaurants will take you on but you will start at the bottom, but its something.

Hum! If only he's lucky!
I know very well a domestic worker who earns R1500/month. But she says her "boss" treats her very well, she rather stay and work there than go where she can earn much more and be treated like a good-for-nothing.

Yeah! This ^
A friend of mine buys and resells stuff on gumtree, olx, bidorbuy. She doesn't earn billions from that, but every little bit helps they say... As for the restaurants job, it's a pretty good one if you give yourself courage and self-confidence that you CAN do it.
My late cousin paid for his studies and his 2 other brothers studies from that! But I must say, after his own studies, he had another little business on the side that helped him pay for his 2 brother's studies.
You can do both together...

Just on the topic of being an introvert, bar tending or waiting on tables is a great help. It will be great way to get over your shyness.

It helped me, I think if I didn't do it I would have ended up being a recluse.

I used to work behind a bar, pay a little car and my rent. You are young try it if it doesn't work it doesn't work. But give it a go. I learnt so much about people's behavior that still to this day help me. I can spot a trouble maker a mile away.

;) happy job hunting the market out there is tough.

Oh and if you start bar tending or something like that just set your self a goal. Say. I will do this for 5 years study and get out. I have seen many people get stuck because the money I s good and easy. ( I worked 4 days a week for 9 hours and made more than the day job I left:eek:)

Deposit your tips every day, easy come easy go. And cash in your pocket burns a hole.

If you really need that money you'd need R200 per day, i.e. four jobs that pay R50. Car valet, window wash, garden clean up. That's easily achievable if you're determined.

You can do it dude.
