Most of Durban is a war zone.

My family lives in a high risk area and I am trying my best to get them to Cape Town.

Do you have any advice for me please.

Is there a way for me to look up current road activity?

Do you know anybody that can help me get them here?

Thank you

Thanks that's helpful.

Do some of realise how serious things are?

The looting is just 1 side to the story.

There is racial tension between the indian & black community at the moment.

15 civilians died in Phoenix yesterday.

There are treats of harming women & children on social media.

They are entering houses abd and killing innocent people.

They are petrol bombing houses.

The police are so under staffed & the community watches are the only protection they have

A 16 year old boy has died trying to protect his community in Phoenix.

There are literally 100s of being entering the community & shooting people.

Difficult to offer any advice unless you're on the streets.
I was just hoping for a way to monitor activity on the road.

I sometimes get so angry with people making a joke about all of this on social platforms.

I am worried about my family being defenseless at home or somebody possibly attacking them on the road.

I don't know what to do and crying isn't constructive

It's what Twitter peeps call “speaking from a position of privilege”. I guess?

That's a difficult one... The airport itself is struggling to operate because the critical staff (such as fire fighters and tower controllers) are unable to get to work

The safest way is in convoy with others I'd assume.

We understand you are concerned and you have every right to be. Just be strong and move on if anybody posts something that triggers you as it's not personal.

1. The unrest map https://appengine.policylab.app/UnrestTracker/ is one of the many sources you can use.

Combine that with google maps as well.

2. Get your family to link up to their neighbourhood watches and ask them to add you. Just having an ear on the ground gives you a sense of control of the situation.

Just stay off Facebook, it triggers anxiety.

3. Phone the airline you plan to use, let them tell you if they have any options available.

4. See if there are any forumites in Phoenix who can perhaps also keep you updated.

This **** is so real & inhuman.

They beat an old woman to death in Phoenix.

Whenever police/army leave then things get worse again.

A lot of people aren't getting the full story.

Community members have been using an app called Zello to guard & monitor areas.

This has helped in some instances.

People wanting to harm citizens are now monitoring the app.

Whenever an area becomes safe & volunteers leave. Things get worse again.

They are know using community efforts against them.

Is it possible for them to drive to Cape Town?

Or at least get to another province in the interim?

Are you sure they're not safer where they are?

Things change too much in a short time.

I'm afraid that somebody might stone the car or attack them.

That is the dilemma I have.

There have been threats of houses being petrol bombed.

I honestly don't know what to do.

Everyday is really tough and I feel terrible about not being with them.
