Most of Durban is a war zone.

My family lives in a high risk area and I am trying my best to get them to Cape Town.

Do you have any advice for me please.

Is there a way for me to look up current road activity?

Do you know anybody that can help me get them here?

Thank you
Depends on which area you are in

That is the dilemma I have.

There have been threats of houses being petrol bombed.

I honestly don't know what to do.

Everyday is really tough and I feel terrible about not being with them.
I get that. Are they keen to leave? Otherwise you'll be fighting a losing battle.

I am not surprised that some of the info is new to people.

The community begged ENCA to come into the community.

Local Media was obsessed with only showing burning Makro buildings while people were trying to defend their loved ones from 100s of "looters" with axes and guns.

I know this might sounds strange but i think your best bet and perhaps safest bet would be for a taxi to pick them up and take them to the airport. I am not saying a luxurious taxi or cab, i am saying the average taxi that for public transport.

I'm not sure what your situation is cash wise, but if you've got funds maybe try hire a private security company to transport them?

Just phone the ones active in your area and ask if it's possible and the cost.

Can you elaborate on this ? Is there any reflection of this in the media yet ?

Security forces outnumbered after tensions in Phoenix flare-up overnight

Members of the SANDF and police were deployed to keep the peace in Sastri Park last night.

Racially motivated tensions escalated again in Sastri Park, north of Durban, on Wednesday night.

This after members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and police were deployed to keep the peace.

Residents say security forces were clearly outnumbered as a night-long game of cat and mouse ensued between Zwelisha township residents and armed forces.

Only one SANDF vehicle was deployed, and a few Saps [South African Police Service] nyalas, against hundreds of rioters,” said a community member in Sastri Park, who wished to remain anonymous.

Shots were fired between Saps and rioting Zwelisha community members, but it is unclear if anyone was wounded in Tuesday night’s crossfire.

Disturbing scenes of violence in Phoenix have also been doing the rounds on social media

The resident said there were fears of ammunition running out among community patrollers, who say the army’s

presence does nothing to deter criminal activity.

“We are on our own. As soon as the police and army leave the area, the attacks resume.”

Sastri Park residents have also been unable to buy essentials as the food supply in surrounding areas has run dry.

But Zwelisha community members were seen dumping loaves of bread into the river that separates the two communities.

I can't gauge racial tension in different areas.

My parents might be attacked by another commuter.

@HS2000 Thanks. On one hand I am skeptical about people coming into houses and murdering and on the other hand I will not be surprised.

It may seem like we are being dramatic but the situation is real. Groups of people have to now guard their areas throughout the night in fear of our homes and loed ones being attacked! There is limited food and fuel supplies already !

@HS2000 My neighbor left for CT this morning, he got someone to drop him off at the airport , the roads were clear to the airport and you are only allowed in if you are travelling.

Can you please drop me a private message.

Was the person accompanying them armed?

Do you think the same person will be willing to help my parents?

I can pay them.

They will if I figure out a safe route & somebody accompanies them.
I would contact the local security company and find out what they would charge to escort your folks to the airport.

The obvious downside is an empty house is a target.

Thanks that's helpful.

Do some of realise how serious things are?

The looting is just 1 side to the story.

There is racial tension between the indian & black community at the moment.

15 civilians died in Phoenix yesterday.

There are treats of harming women & children on social media.

They are entering houses abd and killing innocent people.

They are petrol bombing houses.

The police are so under staffed & the community watches are the only protection they have
Sorry to hear that. Does your cell phone's maps app not allow this? I know Garmin/TomTom devices back in the day could do this, so it's possible one of their apps could also do this on a cell phone.

I was just hoping for a way to monitor activity on the road.

I sometimes get so angry with people making a joke about all of this on social platforms.

I am worried about my family being defenseless at home or somebody possibly attacking them on the road.

I don't know what to do and crying isn't constructive
The usual advice in times like this is to take a beat and just compose for a second. I think your concern is valid but your posts are showing signs of panic - that won't help your peeps.

I don't think is rational to expect to be able to navigate them out to an airport remotely.

I would contact the person who would be the driver and strategise with them among yourselves. The forum isn't going to be of any help.

Godspeed.
