How can I get Telkom to cancel my landline?

We recently moved house and I'm not having any joy trying to get my Telkom landline cancelled. I sent the cancellation form and relevant documents to the servcancellation@telkom.co.za and got an automated response saying that a consultant will contact me within 21 working days (!) to confirm the cancellation. That was 12 May and still no one has contacted me.

I've tried calling the call centre, going to a Telkom store and raising a dispute on the Telkom self-service platform but no luck in getting someone to actually help me.

Has anyone had any luck? What did you do?

Had same story a few years back when I had two lines in the house. After 14 months, the outstanding bill for rental was R1820 and they cut off the remaining line, saying I must pay the arrears. Went into Telkom store with the cancellation confirmation and was told to pay the arrears and claim it back, or else I would not get my line back. The fellow at the counter was rude and unhelpful and threatened to have security throw me out as I said their attitude was blackmail

Came across an old guy who used to work for Telkom on the management side and he knew a few people. It took him 3 days to get it sorted.

However, I see from my credit report from Transunion that I am listed as a bad debtor with Telkom. R1820 is shown as in arrear. On calling T, they say there is no arrear and also will not do anything about the Transunion report

As far as I am concerned, their arse does not know what their elbow is doing and they do not care. Telkom to me is a necessary evil

I started phoning the call centre within the 3rd week explaining I had sent the cancellation along with date and time of email. They then checked and said they can't see cancellation and that they would email the department. I kept doing this every 2 to 3 days until the call centre could see the cancellation on the system with the correct cancellation date, took about 1 1/2 weeks.

As for not paying, they will end up sending your non-payment through to the bureaus as they send payment info to them on a monthly basis anyway. Then its another uphill battle to resolve that. I actually paid via EFT every month, never had a debit order. I am owed R250 as they will bill your an entire month, and then refund you. Still contemplating if I should phone and try get them to pay it back to me.

They intentionally make it hard to cancel. Now if you were transferring the line to somebody else it could take as little as 5mins.

Their systems aren't crap. They just do not like to lose income.

Just mention the CPA to them threateningly.

Stop paying

I hav, would pay monthly online with my card so I haven't paid since cancelling since it should be easier to cancel the debt rather than pay and struggle to get refunded.

Eish, was hoping they would suspend the line sooner than that - at least then while I'm sorting out the cancellation they won't be billing me each month.

Thanks, I will try calling them incessantly and hopefully it will work.

Took about 4 months for them to cancel my line...

Now they need to correct their billing... but they won't see a cent out of me until they give me an accurate bill.
