Hey,

Searched high and low for this specific answer, but cannot find it here.
Our Company offers flexible working schedules, however, the onus is on the staff to confirm they can operate from home, have backup power, working wifi, etc etc.. Question was raised if it's possible to check if one's Electricity meter HAS been upgraded correctly, and is good to go passed the November deadline?
I can't find this on Eskom's site at all.. Does anyone here know?
eg: if you put in a special code, it confirms or deny's it's been done?

**. UPDATE. Apologies, I found this article. **
Municipality update

Pls ignore. have a lekker weekend everyone.

I bought electricity last week, and instead of just the code for the electricity, received 2 extra codes for the meter upgrade as well I presume. When entering them, it replied with a number, and then loaded the units bought when entering the third code. I presume all is well now.

This is CoT meters, no idea how any others work. Will find out in November or so if the meter still accepts codes for loading electricity.

Went through the same thing end of June, same experience, also CoT.

Found this. I was unsure if mine was upgraded. According to below, it is. I see a "2" after "KRN".

In order to see if your prepaid meter is recoded and will work after 24 November 2024 see below:

When next you purchase electricity examine the slip given to you with your TID Code
Towards the bottom of your slip you will see a reference to KRN
If the number after/below KRN is 1 then your meter has NOT been upgraded yet
If the number after/below KRN is 2 then your meter HAS been upgraded.

Hi all,
I hope everyone is doing well!
We purchase our electricity through our banking app, so we don’t see all the details about our usage. How will I know if I need to upgrade my meter?
There seems to be a lot of uncertainty regarding the meter upgrade process.
Thanks!

bought on a bank app or physical vendor?

Ah crap my older till slips say KRN 1. And we usually buy online these days so have no newer slips.
Went to the city twice and got numbers to insert and the meter rejected them, will have to get some city guys to come out and do it.

Thanks for the tip on KRN, we were told because the meter didn't accept the numbers that it was upgraded. Would have been screwed.

In Montagu the procedure is the same as in Cape Town. I think the whole town was completed by April
Same applies in Robertson and Barrydale

You get the codes on whatever method you use, as long as it's an accredited vendor.

What is causing the uncertainty is that we can both buy electricity, I get a the codes and you don't, it's the luck of the draw.

CoCT include the amount of units purchased on your rates account.

I called the City of Cape Town helpline and the lady was very useful, knew what I was talking about and read the number to me and repeated it to make sure I got it. Will test tomorrow when I am back home.

I buy on the FNB app exclusively these days. Earlier this year I bought electricity and it wouldn't load. Called Eskom and they were very helpful. They gave me a couple of new codes to enter, that worked. Then my meter took the new token.

If you buy through Ontec, you can see the slip and the KRN number.

There is no codes on prepaid24 tokens purchases?
I don't think you understand how it works, the codes are random, you don't know when you are going to get them, you can go and buy at a physical vendor and the slip woukd have no codes while the next person might get the codes, that is what is annoying about the whole thing.
