A JOHANNESBURG father is said to have pretended to be his teenage daughter on the controversial cellphone chat network MXit in his attempts to befriend other teenage girls — allegedly to ‘‘groom’’ them for sexual exploitation.

Again, the technology is blamed.

Well the technology has to take a little blame though, sometimes being overconnected can get you into trouble. The tech is not inherently evil, but its naive to think that every single user is not.

 His poor daughter, I wonder if she was even aware of what was going on and what her friends must think of her now...

I do blame the technology. It gives these sickos a means to get at the kids. If there were no mixt's etc then there would be far less cases of this happening.

I disagree, this kind of thing was happening long before mxit, in previous generations it just wasn't spoken about and people turned a blind eye to it.
If there was no mxit the father would have found another way. He would get his daughter to invite her friends over, have sleepovers etc...

Yup laddie. In the old days the perverts would use telegraph to contact the girls and women they stalked.
Of course they had to learn the morse code first but that didn't stop them,
yup yup.....

Why dont they just blame cell phones for crimes then since criminals surely use cellphones to help them in their deeds. Lets blame all technology for everything that actually stems from human nature and the many flaws we have inherent in us.

NRA (National Rifle Association lobbyists) in the USA always says:
"Guns dont kill people... people kill people" -- but you have to agree, the guns help!

You can't deny the fact that the internet and services like Mxit make it much easier for anonymous people to make contact with children. In the past a pervert would have to physically follow a girl now he can cast out a net and
snag them in, sooner or later - depending on how good he or she is, they will
find a child - all the while remaining anonymous.

I remember a reputable news article in the early 80's that said that 50% of all white families back then had some form of incest going on.. So ja today's sicko's are basically a result of that era

Well, let's just blame oxygen for it. If it wasn't for oxygen, then these oaks would be dead. So I blame oxygen.

You also can't deny that cars make it easier for people to get hurt and killed; so let's ban cars. What you're proposing is like cutting your foot off to solve the problem of an ingrown toenail.
