How did the DA get my number?

You must have given your number to a database that you gave permission( its all the fine print) to distribute your details to their affiliations. There is nothing you can do IF that is the case, if however you did not give your number out then perhaps a friend or family member gave your number to them to try and recruit you, a referral if you will. This is also not illegal.

The IEC is not allowed to give out your details to political parties, so it is not them.

probably got it from iec, cause when you register to vote you must add you number to form.

That makes no sense. If the IEC's got your number it means you're registered so why would the DA send you an SMS to ask you to register?

That would be really dof, even for a politician.

Anyway, I have no interest in being spammed. It's my right.

What gave you the impression I don't care? The fact that I don't enjoy being spammed (after I'd registered)?

It should be a criminal offence to not vote. Rather go and spoil your vote but have the balls to go and do something. People have the audacity to bitch and then do nothing when the time comes to make a difference. Rather sickening.

certainly not a DA competition?\

Are we (MyBB) saying that the DA is using what I would consider unethical tactics to get my information? And we are fine with that?

Or is it anything but ANC at all costs?

Hey All

Let me shed some light on this issue for all of you. I am an operations manager for the DA.
Now firstly we have a database of information that we have been buidling for years now.
How do we get our info?
Firstly through petitions at our DA tables.
Secondly when someone contacts the DA we normally ask if they also know of friends that would like to get contacted by the DA.
Lastly when you go and vote or register we have tables outside the polling stations where we also collect info.

Now the reason for us doing this is that we as a political party would like to keep in contact with our supporters. Before the arrival of the internet ect, we use to do this on a door to door basis. Now with the new technical stuff thats available we can do it via sms or a phone call or an e-mail,
We send out huge number of DA newsletters and updates monthly as well.

It surely is not the intention of the DA to invade anyones privacy, but we believe that voters do not only want to hear from a political party at election times and therefore the new strategy to have constant flow of communication with voters.

If you do not want to receive any communication from the DA you can tell the person that is calling you. Same applies with the sms system if you reply with the word stop you will not be contacted again.
The decision lies within your hands. My personal oppinion it is good to get info from political parties as you can then hold them responsible for good governance.

Regards:)

The DA is commited to clean and corrupt free governance. I can assure you that we will not engage in any illegal or unethical activities. Helen Zille will not tolerate any such behaviour

Since I've never signed a DA petition and I didn't talk to the DA person outside the registration station, one of my "friends" must've turned me in.

Yep, multiple SMSes saying "don't forget to register" on the same weekend is certainly a constant flow of information.

your right not to vote, but also NO right not to complain if they sent you sms's

just how the system works, I find it ironic that the people who complain the most about politics and the government never cast a single vote.

LoL... I agree completely.
