We usually fly to many of our destinations via Dubai, using the discounted Discovery Vitaly travel benefit.

The stopover is usually anywhere from 3 to 6 hours, and in case of the latter, we book a room in the airport hotel to have a quick shower and/or nap.

Now, one of our family members lives in Dubai and my partner wants to extend the stopover to a day or three to visit them and do two or three tourist things while we are there.

Without incurring the ridiculous cost of booking single flights to and from destinations, how does one add an extended stopover to a flight? Can it even done via the Discovery Vitaly travel platform?

Thanks

you book it as a multi city route. ie for example
JNB>DXB
DXB>LHR
then say return LHR>JNB

Then it is all on on ticket rather than 2 bookings

I've done it with with KLM before was even cheaper than the flight without the stop over.

Thank you very much for the guidance. Holding thumbs it will also be cheaper in my case!

Unfortunately this is unlikely to be cheaper and can add quite a considerable cost. I think Turkish airlines to boost tourism actually has an additional layover of up to a week or two otherwise can cost a bit more.

You book a Multi Stopopver flight. So rather than single or return, you do a multi stopover, and decide how long you want to stay there for. Suggestion you play around for with the dates. If you can tell me from where to where, and which dates, with how long you want to stay over then I can help you search for your flight. I book it frequently actually.

I generally book via the airlines directly though, but its called Multi City.

Also like my recent trip CPT to Tokyo, then back Osaka to Seoul, and back to CPT.

This is without to much effort, in ticket searching, could probably do better hunting a bit, but the important part is the cost in difference.

This is normally where I stay. Its ok, they have upgraded me each time to a mini apartment. But its right next to the Metro station, so its easy to go anywhere from there. Burj is 1 stop away.

From the emirates site you can also book your excursions, also from booking.com

I suggest up the Burj, there is an early basic breakfast option, the mall also is nice. The palms if you like the beach. there is another view at atlantis you can book too.

Here is for the Dubai Activities.

Did the Breakfast at Burj Khalifa at the skydeck, then went to the Mall for most of the day, did the View from the Palms the Next day.

Motiongate is ok, bit costly. Generally I would do the views and then just check out the mall etc. 1 day at the mall, the other at the palm

But travel with the Metro is cheap, runs really well. Also safe.

If you are there on a South African passport you may need a visa. So check here. Last time we booked a 96 hour visa for a short stay, but you can get a 48hr one too.

You will need a visa, but can be done electronically (no need for consulate visit)

Emirates Airlines usually offers these kinds of extended stopovers in Dubai up to a maximum of 91 hours, if I recall correctly.

definitely will need a visa and it has to be done in advance - you cant leave the airport if you don't have a visa - my sister was going to India and decided to do a two day stop in Dubai (even went so far as to book a hotel room in Dubai) - during the flight book in process they told her she has to have a visa and it cant be done at the airport at Dubai so she could not do the two day stayover or leave the airport - it had to be done here in advance so she had to change her flights to leave Dubai and continue on to India within a couple of hours after landing there on the stopover

is that their seating for real? damn nice haven't flown emirates yet
I’ve never been in any of the ME3, but I’m sure someone on this thread has feedback.
my main travel is in to Europe for family and business, I always check the ME3 and every airline out of the JNB, tend to get a better price on the European or UK carriers.

Been up to the northern hemisphere 3 times this year and the cheapest was Virgin Virgin KLM.
Beating the ME3 by quite a bit in price.

The East African carriers also putting in a lot of competition Kenyan, Ethiopian and RwandAir offering very competitive pricing.
They all flying new equipment have EU safety certificates so always worth a try and shorter flight times

If you talking about the pic that is premium economy and is only on certain routes, the seating all depends on the route and how old the plane is Just got back from Cape Town and it was on older planes so was not the best.
