How do I connect a modern Smart TV to a DVD Surround Sound System

I recently purchased a 58" Hisense UHD Smart TV. I currently own an older LG DVD Surround Sound System that does not have an HDMI port, only RCA (Red, White and Yellow)

The TV does not have RCA OUT, only RCA IN.

Would it be possible for me to purchase an HDMI to AV adapter and connect two systems? Would this work?

With a simple passive cable you cannot succeed in converting RCA to HDMI. You need to have a converter.

So this should work.

If you ever found a way you'd not get 5.1 anyway as these 5.1 systems are limited. Maybe look at upgrading your system. Even if it's a basic AVR in a box.

You never were going to get surround sound from those RCA’s. Only stereo.

The surround only applies to the source itself (the DVD player).

Will probably cost less to replace the whole lot than get a converter than is useless anyway.

Does the LG possibly have an Optical In? The Hisense likely has an Optical Out.
