Hi,

I am sorry if this has already been asked but I really need some help with this if anyone can offer advise.

My mother was give $700 by a friend in the US. She transfered it to my Paypal account which is linked to my ABSA credit card. At the time I was not aware that you have to have an FBN bank account to withdraw funds.

We have tried to register on FNB online without a bank account to withdraw the funds as is suggested here:

https://techgirl.co.za/2018/01/18/withdraw-funds-paypal-south-africa/

This gave me so many problems with errors every time I tried to submit the form, and now it says my ID has been used but I still can't log in.

I then tried to link my boyfriends FNB account to my paypal account it also didn't work. Finally we went into the FNB branch for help only to be told they have no access to Paypal or internet banking help but to try setting up a paypal account for my boyfriend and link that.

I did that and sent some money to him, it shows in his Paypal account but when I try to link his FNB credit card to the PayPal account it says that the card isn't accepted and to try another card.

So now I am stumped. Can anyone give me any advice or assistance please?

Thanks so much.

Whoever told you that is wrong. I can withdraw from Paypal via FNB to my Capitec account.

Yes, I have sold stuff in England and been paid via Paypal. A friend with an FNB account could transfer the money to me. It was about £330 which came to R 5295 incl FNBs fees

I had to write a letter to FNB authorising them to accept my payment

FNB Claremont, Cape Town were most helpful. The Plumstead branch on the other hand did not have a clue

Or you could find buyers of PayPal (like me) where you transfer the funds to our PayPal (or vice versa) and we pay you cash/eft after we agree on the rate.

Of course you can’t just trust anyone, so you need to be sure of whom you dealing with.

Did you contact the PayPal number on FNB site? They will sort you out, just phone them.

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies.

I decided to try the Maxicash App and it worked great. I did lose a little of it in fees and the Paypal exchange but that is to be expected.

I might just have been unlucky or maybe dense but I found FNB so hard to deal with.

Thanks again for the help.

Alternatively you can trade your paypal for zar on forums. Quite a few guys out there 'buying' paypal usd because it works out much cheaper than paying conversion fees etc on your card. You also get your money much quicker. Or try mycurrencyexchange.co.za
