How do I light this.

Seems the best place to ask an electrical question.



I have this old demijohn, 52cm high.

I want to light it from the inside.

The opening is just under 3cm across so the bulb will need to be quite small.

I'm not drilling any holes so the cable will have to go down from the top - with some kind of bulb suspended roughly in the middle.

Any ideas please ?

Hang a LED strip down the middle, suspend it from a cork or something.

I was thinking of a cork top, so the light will need to be low heat I guess.

Hadn't thought of battery powered, I think electric will be better as it will be on for long periods of time.

Anyone know what a pendant light is ?

Can one buy something that uses electromagnetic induction like wireless chargers? Then you can have LED's or whatever inside the bottle with no wires hanging out.

I like the old style 15w oven bulb but not sure if I can get a fitting that I can attach wires to.



A smaller led - how would I connect this ?

That oven lamp will fit an SES (Small Edison Screw) holder, you should be able to find those pretty easily. Also have a look at fridge lamps/holders - should be similar.

The bottom one looks like it's halogen, they usually have neat little ceramic bases. In both cases you might need to watch out for heat generated by the lamps, I don't know what effect that might have in a sealed bottle.

The local hardware store suggested this - which is okay as the bulb and fitting fit through the top of the bottle.

But... how do you connect the power cord to this - I'm used to plug type things where you screw the wire in place.

This has none, and worse it has 5 holes, not two !

I would expect the connections to be made right where you have stripped the fitting, so perhaps this is a dedicated fitting for some appliance and doesn't have the usual screw terminals. If you have a meter you can check very quickly where you should connect to, but it's not clear how you're going to effect the connection. I'd take it back or bin it and look for something that's a little more user friendly.

I would use a CCFL. Light up the whole thing from top to bottom.
