How do luxury cars still blow cold air with engine off?

Electronically controller compressor does not equal electric compressor.

You absolutely need the car to be running to run the compressor, as has been illustrated above there are just a few tricks to keep the already cooled air circulating.

Simple way to prove this would be to get in an already got car and without running the engine sees if there is any cooling happening...my bet would be a very strong no.

traditionally car air-conditioning pumps run off the crank pulley serpentine belt, but this system does take a considerable amount of energy/fuel from the engine to run, newer cars especially electric cars use an electric inverter compressor (similar to your split aircon system at home) but designed for 12v.

Here's a link of the system installed on an older Passat, obviously this is an aftermarket system but the principle is still the same to OEM setup found in newer luxury cars/electric cars.

The guys in the 12V alternative thread should remember this one as a Aircon solution!

I have always wanted a solar system that cools the car from pannels on the roof.

Then you leave your car in the sun and come back to a cool car.
In the early days of homemark (booklet) they sold this BS air conditioner that worked on solar panel induction fan that you placed in a rear winding window... it would circulate "cool" air into car while you do your shopping.

eish... not in Oudtshoorn it wont.

That one went back for the 14day money back...
