How do we get Telkom to pull cables into complex estate?

Hi

I currently live in a newly (2-3years) built security complex estate, that has had all the Telkom infrastructure pre-built except the actual cables pulled.
We have been told by the Telkom Sales guy that they will only pull cables if we have more than 65% of the tenants renting lines.
We currently only have just over 40 out of 188 units that have applied.
We would look at other solutions but 3G/LTE in the complex is almost non-existent.
Is there no other way we can get Telkom to pull the cables? Maybe pay a once off installation fee and then let the tenants rent as they please after?

Any help would be appreciated.

This probably won't be possible. You won't get 40 / 188 units to comply, not while 3G coverage is so good. If the complex doesn't have Telkom infrastructure from the get-go it probably will never have. My brother stayed in a estate a few years ago and he was quoted something like R60,000 just to draw a Telkom cable to his home. Needless to say he didn't take it.

We have almost no 3G coverage in our complex. Hence the necessity to get Telkom. The infrastructure is all there, they just need to pull the cables.

Telkom will let you pull the cables yourself. An electrician will install them and certify that is has been done to spec, with Telkom doing the final connections. I manage large commercial buildings and estates and this is how we always do it.

If I was Telkom I would take this once the cables are there and people start to talk about it there is a good chance that others will join.
Back to the topic I don't know what is the best way for Telkom to help you other than the 65% number of complexes

Thanks. If this is possible it's definitely worth looking at. The Sales guy didn't bother to mention that though.
Any idea who would be able to do this for us? Northern Suburbs area.

The trick is to try and get a relationship with a Telkom tech, look out for the trucks in your area and go and approach the guys. They are usually willing to point you in the right direction as they are likely as fed up with Telkom bureaucracy as you!

Do you actually already have cables inside the complex, are you sure?

What happens inside the complex is not Telkom's baby, in many cases estates will not allow them access.

If you have existing cables inside the complex that all terminate in a DB and Telkom are allowed in then I think they will do it.

Which town & complex are you in?

I am working with the Body Corporate and Estate Management to try and get them to pull the cables. They've told us they will only pull them once 65% of tenants apply for a line.

Get your Body Corporate to lay the cables themselves. Outsource it to a reliable company. Your estate will then own and be responsible for the internal network. Should Another player wish to provide services over copper at your estate, then you can either give Telkom the boot, or allow them both to operate and compete for customers. Remember to allow enough space in the ducts and other conduits for future fibre cables.

In the short term, I don't think there are many players who do or are willing to do this. In the longer term, this will become more prevalent, especially (if and) when we get LLU. You might want to contact one of the ISPs and ask them if they are willing to provide services if the basic infrastructure is in place.

Before you go wiring the place just make sure there is an under ground or over head cable feeding the main distribution point (DP)
from Telkom side.

Suburb\City? (no need for complex name on open forum)

So there are currently no cables inside the complex? How would they know 65% of tenants have applied for a line when the application goes to telkom?
