How do you guys manage with all the "stuff" in the house?

I rent the flat I live in, which works for me cos I like to move a lot (7 times in 12 years)...and this has made it easier for me to not keep too much stuff - packing is a pain! Everytime I move I get rid of anything I haven't used since moving into the place.

My current place is also quite small compared to the previous places I've lived in so it prevents me from buying stuff unless I really need it cos "where will I keep it?"

We actually hired some professionals recently. Basically two ladies that came about every Saturday for 2 months, the two of us and them going through one room or so each day and basically throwing away, donating to our nanny, donating to charity etc but also organising stuff better. Each time they took a bakkie load of stuff to go to either the dump or charity.

We also ended up buying a lot more containers and things. It definitely just "feels" better and less stressful having less stuff. Nothing is "minimalist" by any means now but it's much tidier. Some stuff is still a bit "work in progress".

I actually need to buy some stuff, like bags, boxes and a truck, to carry the other stuff to the dump. Until I can afford the stuff I need, I'll store my stuff in drawers and in my garage. Maybe I can sell my stuff, for money to buy the stuff I need.

Lol. At previous house, I would come home and find stuff my wife deemed no longer suitable for our small 2 bedroom house in tje garage. To maintain some sort of neatness, i would buy storage containers to store the stuff. When we moved. I actually got rid of a lot if stuff. Now I have empty storage containers

Bought a bigger house.
Yay just a matter of time then the bigger house is filled with more stuff and not enough space is the ultimate outcome. This can then only be resolved by.... A bigger house? How about stop the cycle and get rid of what you don't need and use anymore?

I have a small spare room devoted to my stuff. I hardly go in there and it's not allowed to spill over. Looked in there now, and it's got camping gear, jerry cans, charcoal and lego cluttering the floor.

That's kinda why our 4th garage looked like it did. It went from "can't even walk in" to "could pull a car in". Camping gear, building leftovers, gardening tools, old boxes, car parts, etc.

Just recently cleaned up the garage a bit now. Actually looks like one now and the cars can actually fit :)

Above is describing me in a nutshell - anyone in this situation?

I am just tired of "stuff" around the house, getting rid of it slowly by selling on olx/gumtree or just giving it away at times.

I generally give it to someone I know is in need.
Fortunately I have no sentimentality, anything I think hasn't been used for over a year goes to the charity shop.

Exactly the same mentality I have. If I havent used it in 6-12 months. I give it away. I think long and hard before I buy something. Do I *really* need it?

The reality is the following might happen when you deal with your Stuff.

1. You realise how much crap you bought that you didn't need/use.
2. You will hopefully stop buying stuff you don't need/use
3. You will save money going forward
4. Give the stuff you no longer need away or sell it if still in good condition.
