You can choose multiple options.

Open windows at night and close as the day heats up.

Portable aircon for the really warm office upstairs at the worst of times.

Aircons rule.

Have a friend that put sprinklers on his roof. He claimed it made a huge difference.
Putting on sprinklers around the house with doors and windows open also cools down the house

Bedrooms = aircons
Lounge- powerful fan

Also, we close curtains on windows which is in direct sunlight and open curtains on the other side (makes a big difference).

ducted aircon
it's a lot cheaper to run than many realise
you let it run 24/7 & the compressor only comes on for short periods to maintain the desired temperature.

i constantly see morons with airconditioning who shut it down as soon as they feel cool, then an hour later they switch it back on again as they are getting warm again.
these are the ppl that will say it is expensive to run, not understanding the difference between maintaining a certain temperature and repeatedly having to achieve that same temperature for short periods.

Basically a form of evaporative cooling so yeah.. will work. Can be quite effective too.

If you have a brick-face house you can also hose down the outside walls. Basically turns the whole house into an evaporative cooler box.

Busy installing insulation and still need to do the garage. The garage is attached to the house, so I hope that will make a big difference.

I'm planning to do some awnings at some point which should help with a lot of the larger exposed windows.

Other: Windows facing north we keep closed as well as the thick blinds. Blocks 98% of the heat penetrating indoors.
