How do you manage the content on your phone?

Referring to files such as documents, pictures, photos, videos and so forth :)

Do you use your device manufacturer supplied application to backup your phone to your PC and sync across the information or do you do it by hand?

I myself regularly clear my device out - I can't stand clutter so I usually cut and paste all the photos taken with my phone camera to a folder on my PC at home every month. I shove the Whatsapp items into a separate folder and delete the stuff I don't need after the fact (90% of the content anyway). My downloads I keep as it's mostly various PDF's and small documents anyway. I have a few ebooks in their own folder, and my music collection I also copy onto my phone manually using Windows Explorer.

I tried the Xiaomi PC suite thingy ages ago but I could not for the life of me get it to work. I also sometimes use Airdroid to quickly transfer files when I am too lazy to find my USB cable:p

Friday I back up everything from my phone to the PC into cloud folders and then wipe the phone.

So phone stays fast and files are in order.

I actually use Telegram as all the data and files are stored on the cloud and not on the device (by default) and available across all platforms/devices where you have Telegram installed. Example I take pics and make notes while away from the office and send them to the "Me" account in Telegram. When I get to the office they are available on my pc.

With telegram it also helps if you are wanting to forward a file to someone. As it is stored on the cloud you don't first have to download it to your device and then send it out again (like WhatsApp does). "Unfortunately" file sizes are restricted to a mere 1.5Gb each on Telegram.

You could use Google drive

BTW with WhatsApp if you forward a pic or video clip it is stored elsewhere on the device, even if you delete it in the chat.

Internal Storage
WhatsApp
Media
WhatsApp Images / WhatsApp Video / WhatsApp Documents / WhatsApp Animated Gifs .....

So explain to me how end to end encryption works when everything is stored on a cloud based server? Maybe Telegram isn't the much better after all.

How is that a schlep? It's just sending an IM to yourself. Photos, videos, notes, documents,........ A hang of a lot easier than plugging in a USB cable, searching through the folder system to find a file, or logging on to something like GDrive.

Gathering together the photos and videos and notes and documents you want and sending them to yourself is easier than plugging in a cable, which most do anyway when they charge their phone, or automatic transfers to the cloud? Sorry, but I disagree.
