How do you weaken a signal.

I'm in this annoying situation where the CellC tower is just close enough to hinder me, and too far to be of any help.

Can't get on 3G, just missing it, and CellC edge just doesn't work. The only way I can connect via CellC atm is with Vodacom EDGE.

The problem is my connection wizard keeps finding the CellC tower, then I can't connect to Vodacom EDGE anymore.
I have two modems though and one does this less, so I figure if I can weaken the signal coming out of the modem just enough it might work. Is this possible and how?

Does your dashboard have the option of manual operator selection?

The Vodacom dashboard does, but it gives an invalid sim error and that option gets disabled... But it doesn't matter anymore since after fidling with some steel bowls and trying various angles I noticed a blue light come on. I then took the modem, put it in the laptop and took a walk around the house and noticed the 3G signal was now active in my town. All I had to do was face the right direction and move the PC closer to the window...

Anyways I have CellC 3G now and gonna go hunting for that new promo. Finally after all these years I'm gonna have sufficient and fast affordable internet.

So happy right now :)

Glad you have Wooosh now! Much better than wrapping your modem in tin foil. :D
When last did you check the signal around your house? You could have been having 3G for months already.

About every week or so since I saw how close the signal was to our town (we were basically on the edge), only went around the house a few times in the start though.

I did not know how sensitive it was though, it doesn't seem to work in our home at all, except for when you bring it near a window, in my room, moving it just one meter is the difference between getting and not getting a signal. It's at 97dbm currently.

We only recently got MTN 3G too.

Might have to strengthen the signal now...
I have a k4050-z and it only connects when I'm on HSPA+. When I'm on 3G nothing happens.

Just saw the new CellC tower being build a few km away from my home. Think it'll go active before the end of the year, so all I have to do is wait, in order to get a more stable connection.

We're quite central, so I won't be surprised if the entire free-state gets covered soon.
