If you had a website in any other country, you get paypal, wire up the code, and people can easily make donations to your site. But we don't have PayPal in SA. So, how will this work in a quick and simple manner?

Quick and simple manner? LOL! This is SA buddy, no such thing :)

http://www.therandtoday.com/2007/11/07/paypal-in-south-africa-restriction-to-e-commerce/ << SARS is to blame for our not being able to make use of paypal!

For my site we had to contact Nedbank and set up a merchant account (nedbank is the only facility in SA that supports ecommerce! For each and every transaction that takes place on our site Nedbank helps itself to 1.5% (slightly less or more) of the total transaction !!! :erm:

Nedbank will supply you with the code that you need to add to your ecommerce basket.

Hope that helps a little. :D

Kind regards

Death and Taxes...
I think that it's about time to write an article on how much we spend on taxes, and then SARS wants more!? It's some ridiculous amount on your salary, and then again at least 14% of everything you spend it on!

But thanks for the Help. I was planning on moving to Nedbank anyway, so I might as well ask them when I'm there

I know the service provider Nedbank uses is called Iveri. And yes I do believe you will have to create a merchant account through nedbank before using Iveri! It's a bloody damn inconvenience to us Seffricans to have to go through all this mumbo jumbo when the rest of the world can just do it willy nilly paypal style!

Here's more to read up on if interested >> http://imod.co.za/2008/02/13/i-called-paypalcom-today-from-south-africa-and-asked-wasssup/

Actually, one way to Jippo the system is have someone in the UK set up a bank account then just register the paypal account as a UK user with those bank account details. ??

It's not about logging into PayPal that you can do, it's about taking money out of PayPal into your account.

Now what I don't get is how is this any different to anything else, like for example online poker? That gets paid into your account internationally yet SARS doesn't block that. Or if someone deposits money into your account.

They only way I see this as a loophole is if you keep all your money in PayPal and never take it out. Because then they wont be able to track that on a SARS audit.

I reckon the best way is to take a trip overseas, open up a bank account and setup paypal, you can open up a us bank account with just a passport.

Loyds in the UK, has an SA branch. But the idea of keeping your cash in your Paypal account isn't half bad. I'll ponder about it... but for now, as the site is small, I doubt if I'll get a lot of international traffic. So, I'll make some kind of plan when I get to it. ;)

Again, thanks a million for the great info.

ok, so check this, im stuck with this same problem. epassporte allows south africans to receive payments though, so if you had an american paypal account you just need a method of transferring money from paypal to epassporte. So I heard somewhere that with an american paypal account you can set up a virtual credit card, which is like a random credit card number that paypal generates that is linked to your paypal account. So what you do is take your virtual credit card number, then transfer it to your epassporte account then withdraw here. Wow, such a mission but I guess we have no choice. I'm not sure if this will definitely work but it might. I'm still wondering if SARS would be able to monitor this cos you could avoid quite a lot of tax if you make most of your money overseas.
