How does one go about getting the community interested in fibre?

I've just moved to a new area (Tijgerhof, Milnerton, CPT) and it seems i'm in a bit of a dead zone fibre wise.

Looking at the Vumatel website there needs to be another 400+ interested parties before they'll consider a rollout.

Has anyone managed to canvas their area and get this many people to sign up? If so how and what pain points did you have? Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Start a Facebook page and start spamming buy and sell groups in the area.

in our area, it kinda helped that we have everyone on whatsapp groups (about 4 groups of 200 odd each) so getting everyone to sign up wasnt an issue.

Also helps that most of us were on 2 to 4meg adsl and starved for fibre hence very positive update. We did have a few *******s kicking up a fuss for Vumatel trenching and didnt allow them to trench outside their house but the came around eventually.

I'm not sure if Vuma is that strict about it, they have a mind of their own. We still needed at least 700 signups, yet the begun trenching last year November. Most of our area is live now and houses getting lit up day by day.

Also helps to get the local Councillor involved too.

Contact Vumatel, they gave me a **** ton of flyers explaining the benefits of fibre and the like. I placed these at the businesses in the area, and surprisingly enough, they wen't quite quickly.

Further to this, I created a Gmail account, and posted ads in the local newspaper, and the local interest groups. Asking people to contact me if they were interested, and I'll help them out. It helps if, for example, the group you are posting to is a security biased group, post the details about using fibre for CCTV feeds, or figure out a similar way of doing it.

Overall, not sure how much it helped, and if perhaps we were just in the right place at the right time, but we do have fibre. So something worked.
