How entire ISPs can be taken offline by DDoS attacks

Our Internet stayed up, but we could tell that something was not right.
CISP had a rough weekend.
Ended up spending most of my Sunday catching up on unwatched Plex titles over DLNA.
...have seen this happen to an ISP during an international gaming tournament to take out competition...

That's what I thought - it's fairly cheap to rent a DDOS service, but it's happened twice now, with a lot of bandwidth, over quite a decent span of time - it's probably moving out of the budget of disgruntled employee range.

Maybe it's cloudflare, doing a HARD sell for their anti-DDOS service :)
