How Eskom screwed South Africa

It isn’t difficult to find the main culprit behind South Africa’s biggest economic contraction in a decade: Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd., the state-monopoly power provider.

Gross domestic product slumped an annualized 3.2% in the first quarter, after expanding 1.4% in the prior three months, as a series of power cuts - courtesy of Eskom - hammered manufacturing, mining and agricultural output.

Agree with @thestaggy. It's not Eskom that screwed SA, it's the ANC that did the damage, is doing the damage, and will continue doing the damage.

In some ways it's actually a good thing.
Can you imagine if another political party like the DA gained the majority of the votes in the last national election?
They would be blamed for the SOE failures and be tasked to fix the mess.

The same thing happened when the DA gained control of some of the metros and was faced with a financial mess, corruption and service delivery problems which the previous ANC administration left behind.
One big blame game.
