How fast is your house's Wi-Fi?

I have a cheapo Trendnet 150Mb/s router at home with 4 phones, 2 tablets and a laptop connecting wirelessly to it. 2 desktops are connected via ethernet. The router's Wi-Fi coverage is bad, but that isn't my main problem. My main problem is the speed at which files copy between my laptop, a Lenovo G50 running Windows 8.1, and my desktop (Windows 10).

I only get 5MB/s transfer speeds. I’m sure I should be able to get more. I’m right next to the router! It isn't any faster with less devices connected, so it's not that the router is bogged down.

What do you guys get? Is there something I could do to get faster speeds?

54Mbps per connection is normal.
I get 30MB/s on 5GHz and 5MB/s on 2.4Ghz.

150Mbps = 18.75MB/s share amongs devices!

Ah, ok. Thanks! I think I might have to replace the old POS.

First make sure you understand the limitations of the version of Wi-Fi you have as well as what the 2.4 GHz band allows for before summarily assuming that a different router will give anything better.

That 150 you got there isn't MB/s but Megabits per second.

So it's in reality 18.75 MB/s.

It's also the combined up and down speed usually and then also at perfectly peak optimization.

So 5MB/s isn't completely unreasonable.

Yeah, I think that's for the best. I'll do a bit of reading later. Thanks.

I know that. It's why why I used the right unit of measurement.

I didn't know that. :p

This is why I only try and use cables. Wifi is for the phones. :) Also, I bought a Unify AC lite AP, to get 5Ghz for the every now and again laptop quick fixing/copying files.
