Let me start off by admitting that I was an idiot, to save others the trouble, but I think my story is worth sharing. Also, the title is a bit misleading, as it was my daughter who bought and tried to play the game, but here goes...
We were browsing in a music/gaming store when my 18-year old daughter saw the Hitman Steelbook Edition. She asked me whether to buy it on PC or PS4, and as we share one PS4 between four family members, I recommended PC (first huge mistake).
When we installed the game on her (basically entry-level, 2-year old) PC it required an "update" to be installed - nothing unusual about that. As bad fortune would have it, our ADSL line was down at that time (another frustrating tale that warrants a post), so I gave her my cellphone to complete the installation (second huge mistake). I then left her alone (third huge mistake). About 10GB and R7000 later on out-of-bundle rates, the game was installed.
Only when she complained that she still cannot play the game did we compare the minimum system requirements with her PC specs, and we weren't even close (this one is all on me).
The question / comment I have is this: Yes, I know there is a warning on the packaging that downloading may be required, but is this clear enough in terms of our Consumer Protection legislation? What is the point of buying a disc, if the game is actually unplayable without doing a 10GB plus download?
Eventually we went back and bought the game for PS4, did another 15GB update, fortunately this time over ADSL. So that is how we got close to R10000.
