How Hitman cost me R10000 and I still couldn't play it!

That's rough man. I see some people here are critical, but really these are fairly easy traps to fall into if you do not have a handle on the ins and outs of personal computing in SA (or in some cases in general). Things like a grasp of the type of titles you can expect to play well on your PC. The cost of data. The amounts of data that is regularly involved these days. Etc.

Truth be told even I am often surprised by the size and regularity of updates and installs and I have a large ADSL cap and I use Steam so I should be used to it. And then I've built up experience with it. All I can say is that if you do not know much then one should plan on buying a bit more expensive (PC) - As in R10k-R15k at least to be up to contemporary mainstream specs for gamers - From a reputable retailer, and rather assume that you will need a decent ADSL line.

Oh and just assume that unchecked mobile data usage will come back to haunt you of course.

There are plenty of possible stumbling blocks for novices otherwise. I originally built my own PC and I have kept it up to date in incremental steps from there on (only the original case remains). This is something that costs me about R2k-R6k a year.

I love how many critical knobends in here just assume everyone is 100% pc/tech literate ....... there are plenty who aren't ;)

@OP - sorry for your cockup, at least you own it. Next time have someone a tad tech savvy, just in case.

These days simply assume that most games will require updates regardless whether it's console or PC.

Also never use your cellphone data for you PC/console unless you know what you are doing.

I feel for you Koeloe. I can imagine that for people who aren't familiar with gaming, all these things may come as a big surprise.

Games are huge these days. Why I played DOOM a short while back and the install was like 70GB or around there. And if you buy the disc, most of it will still be downloaded.

AAA titles require gaming machines to run on that cost quite a bit more than a normal pc.

Most of us have been gamers for as long as we can remember but for those new to the scene it may be a jarring experience.

Also, Koeloe, hopefully you'll pay more attention to the products you buy now. All these things are written on the box.

Plus to add to it, the game you bought has an 18+ age rating. How old is your daughter? It's something worth considering. It's parents who don't pay attention who end up complaining about nudity and such in a game and then spoil it for the rest of us.

We were browsing in a music/gaming store when my 18-year old daughter saw the Hitman Steelbook Edition...

He did say she was 18. :)

Anyway, still an expensive lesson to learn. The things we do for our kids. :p

At least its "only" R10k

The game it self is huge so could have download about 20 gigs extra at R40k.

Lesson learnt - No one would hire you to be their professional hitman.
