You have ADSL but used mobile data?
Ouch.

Mobile data on any sort of contract is madness unless there's a hard cap.

Allow me to retort....

As bad fortune would have it, our ADSL line was down at that time

/the numerous comprehension failures in this thread that culminates in garbage replies is astounding.....unnecessary clutter.

Explain sire, please...

He has ADSL but used mobile data. Don't tell me it didn't work, it doesn't change the point. You wait for it to be fixed before even trying to start your game that will want to download the internet before you can play - standard for most games these days.
Ouch - it hurt.

Mobile data on any sort of contract is madness unless there's a hard cap.

What's there to explain?

No, the problem is he now wants to blame the retailer.

He should take it as lesson learned and move on.

"The question / comment I have is this: Yes, I know there is a warning on the packaging that downloading may be required, but is this clear enough in terms of our Consumer Protection legislation? What is the point of buying a disc, if the game is actually unplayable without doing a 10GB plus download?"

I see a question, you read blame. Go get your school fees back.

Its sad to see how quickly people are willing to blame themselves or other consumers for something there aught to be better protection against.
This is why we still have vodacom qetting way with sht like this.

Its happened that that i`ve had to use tethering on my laptop, and some or other software decides to update.
and before I realise it, my it my data plus airtime is finished because the stupid thing has gone oob. Its a ****ing scam, vodacom is preying on their customers making mistakes. and all I picture when I complain is that southpark episode with the guys rubbing their own nipples.

If you use a bit of common sense, a lot of frustration can be avoided.

Bliksem. The poor oke made a mistake, had balls to share it - YET there's a truck load of stupid cock suckers k@kking on him for his mistakes.
May a donkey kick your a$$ today. Yes , you know who you are. Pricks.
So must we convey our deepest condolences for lost data?
This is a public forum so flaming is always expected. Deal with it or gtfo. Besides, most comments are tongue in cheek anyway so your name calling is totally uncalled for.
Hope you get an infraction.

Of course it can.

You can set your data limit manually on your phone every time you buy a data bundle. but slip up once, or miscalculate and you can land thousands of rand in dept for credit you never asked for. Where`s the regulation that consumers are actually asking or?

The lesson is, don't do contracts, midnight cap is also the only viable solution for updates on mobile.
You need to schedule them.

Other lesson, not only games but their updates are freaken huge. We live in a era of dlc, complete editions, the publishers will do anything to keep their game relevant.

It failed to work a few times. Stay away from contacts period, unless it was the MTN 50gig per month black friday deal.

He did not know it's that big (to download). It's an expensive lesson, but he now have your super knowledge, gained through personal experience...and hopefully the knowledge that comes with Google.

Of course, not arguing that, but the real lesson is to get rid of that stupid 'uncapped' mobile data account, not?
