So i must admit i cant really find much feedback on their service (fibre) other than one hellopeter post in which the client didnt get his fibre router and the connection was never established plus they charged a R999 cancellation fee when the client wanted to cancel

so yeah not so good based on that review but how would you guys rate them ?

i signed up for the 20mb uncapped for R799 comes with free router, installation and the 1st 2 months are free
as a newbie getting fibre thats a pretty decent deal - plus its month to month so i guess i could always change on the fly if im not happy.

Just keep in mind if you cancel within 12 months you are liable for the Connection Fee, Router and line installation which is a couple of grand.

I have Cool Ideas 20/20 on Vuma and no hassles (just as a comparison)

I had WebAfrica for ADSL for a couple of years before I moved to Afrihost eventually and now Fibre.

If you don't get joy with WA go CI

OP, how was your experience on WebAfrica with Vumatel?

We'll hopefully go live on Vumatel in the next few weeks, and I'm currently considering Cool Ideas and WebAfrica as ISP. They're the same price, and Cool Ideas have an excellent reputation on MyBB, but the one thing WebAfrica has in its favour is that they allow you to subscribe by Credit Card. For a few reasons this is more appealing to only debit order supported by Cool Ideas.
It's not a deal breaker, but If they're otherwise equal, it might tip the scales in WebAfrica's favour...

We offer Payfast as well, so you can use your Credit Card via that.

Honestly, you'll get better throughput and latency from setting up your own implementation of IPoAC than using Webafrica as your ISP.

(You may experience packet loss issues with IPoAC though...)

Yeah, just not as much as you'll get with Web Africa.

If you scan this forum, you'll find that many people have issues with web africa, whereas very few have issues with Cool Ideas. Having used Web Africa in my ADSL days, there is no way I'd return to them from Cool Ideas (who I'm with now). Like any ISP, Cool Ideas aren't perfect. But at least they try to be and consequently get it right most of the time.

I am on the same special as you with Web Africa but with Frogfoot as fibre supplier. Two days after Frogfoot installed my line Web Africa delivered my router and I was on line imediately with no hicups. My 10 mbps shows a download speed of 9.8mbps and upload speed of 9.6mbps. No problems anywhere and happy.:D

Are things still smooth sailing with WA? finally getting them to come do my installation within the next week, want to know if i should have just gone with CI instead?

Im on Vumatel, Webafrica. Has been rock solid since I got it a few months ago. Most of the time get 150-170ms ping to European Game servers.

current WA user.
Initially I had issues with international - was getting a fraction of what I was paying for. Took about a month to resolve and I was given a credit during that period (kudos to WA). After that, not an issue.
Will to moving to cisp in DEC17.
With WA, currently 50/50, on cisp, will be 100/10 for same price.

Current WA 100/100 user (for a year now), and was with them for about 6 before that on ADSL. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've never been able to understand the negativity towards them here - it's all been fine. Having said that, international speedtests look better on CISP based on what I've seen in this forum, and CISP are a bit cheaper for what I'm looking for. So while I've got no grumbles about WA, I'm considering moving to CISP myself at the end of the month, when my 12 months ends.

Are you on a contract, or just are you just waiting for 12 months to pass to avoid paying back installation fees, etc.

Month-to-month. They had that deal for 2 (or 3) months free when signing up, so it seemed a no-brainer to start with them. I wasn't necessarily planning on leaving after 12 months, but once I started thinking of doing so, waiting for the 12 months to run out and avoiding the fees made sense.

I am with WA through Frogfoot on 10/10 fibre and uncapped. Smooth sailing and no problems. Ping 8 ms down 9.7 and up 9.6. Never experienced drop in speed.

Webafrica / Openserve 100Mbps user here, about 95 down, 49 up. Latency to London is around 145ms. International download is a bit worse, but averages around 80 down.
