How Long can a Cartridge be Stored?

Well, the title says it all. I know that ink will not last as long as laser catridges but how long can one store a laserjet's cartridge? Months? Years?

I have successfully stored toner cartridges for over 6 months with no ill-effects on printing. Can't vouch for much more, but I'd assume that it could last over a year. Possibly more.
