How long do your laptops usually last? Do you take good care of your gear?

???
win XP or something :p
maybe time to go win 10?
Im trying to uggrade for Win 10. Problem is windows is not booting. Ram reads fine in Bios. But the Dell diagnostics crashes the same as Win 7 64x the moment it gets to RAM resting. I stick 4GB back in and everything works fine.

speeds and ram brands?
what happens if you max both slots and see if it works?

Dell can be finicky when it comes to those.
Id try something different like different Brands and different speeds and see if it helps.

No. Im on Win 7. I cant run Diagnostics even which has nothing to do with Windows. I want to migrate to Win 10 but insufficient memory.

Sounds like the Tongfang/Schenker/Mechrevo Air S2 might be the fit for you

They are sold locally by Wootware as the Wootware Metal II.

You can spec one with a 500GB NVME SSD, 32GB RAM and a three year warranty for a little over R16k:

Wow- that's a lekker machine!

Expensive, but hopefully that or similar will be more affordable by the time my Dell starts showing its age.

I do hope the QC becomes less of an issue later down the line, maybe with later revisions. Also, the battery life isn't all that great either if that is something that is important to you.

You could also look at the Huawei Matebook D 14, but I think it only comes specced with 8GB RAM which is soldered down so you won't be able to upgrade down the line.

We recently had to retire my wive's original Acer, due to the simple fact that we can't get a OS that can still run on it.
The laptop itself is in perfect condition

Spilled coffee on my Acer after 4 years and the motherboard died. Bought a stolen HP and sold it on. Got an Aspire One for free and it got stolen. Now just using a Rpi 4.

Bought a very powerful HP laptop back in 2012. Was nice, but a bit noisy. HDD crashed about a 16 months later and the RAM broke... when the RAM broke again mid 2014, I had enough and bought a Macbook Pro.
Macbook Pro still going strong 6 years later. Never had any issues.

I do go out of my way taking care of my gear.

My MSI GE72 last 5 years. I replaced it recently as it was randomly rebooting (a reformat sorted it out and would be okay until I reinstalled steam and the problem would resurface).

As to taking care of it. Sure but the black paint on the keys wore off with time (WASD) and the GPU fan was replaced twice.
