Grey boxes were put up outside my house 2 weeks ago. How much longer should I expect, before technicians start coming to the homes to install the fiber?
Have you pre-ordered? For me it was about a week and a half from the date of signing up with an ISP.
How do you share a connection with your neighbour? Is it like a granny flat in a yard kind of neighbour?Haven't preordered, still waiting for my neighbor to cancel his Telkom contract as we'll be sharing. Just interested in the ETA - where are you based may I ask? I'm in Cape Town
All depends on how big the roll out is. After the grey boxes are installed throughout your whole suburb, they take a week or so to test them. I suggest you make a preorder in the meantime.Grey boxes were put up outside my house 2 weeks ago. How much longer should I expect, before technicians start coming to the homes to install the fiber?
Yup, that's exactly how it isHow do you share a connection with your neighbour? Is it like a granny flat in a yard kind of neighbour?

Once testing is completed and the fibre is live, you make your order with your ISP and Vumatel. They then usually take 2-3 weeks to do the installation in your home.
Ah I see, a good cost saving measure if tou get something like a 50mbps for the property.Yup, that's exactly how it isI've bought a WiFi extender with ac, and I'll have the WiFi router in my place.
Yep. Also, check if their is an area champion in your area (person who takes the lead). In my area I took the lead, so I had direct contact with Vumatel and knew exactly what was going on.Ah I see, a good cost saving measure if tou get something like a 50mbps for the property.
They will light up the fibre area by area so only once your entire suburb is complete. Probably around a month but there isn't really a way to be sure other than asking one of the guys when you drive past.

Just make sure your neighbour cancels his telkom line properly through the online portal ONLY and not through any other means as people who have cancelled using other methods end up with massive headaches.
How far into the 24 month contract is he and is it lte or adsl? Thanks - He's currently stuck in a 24 month contract, so he's hoping to get someone to take over the contract. But if he does cancel it, any idea what the costs involved will be?
Regards

I believe the cancellation fee for adsl will be what is left that you owe towards the router, installation and a R400 penalty fee.
Although I might me completely wrong and they could just charge a penalty fee, best to phone 10210 and ask as to what the cancellation fee is for adsl.
If it's lte then there is a trick to getting out of a contract with only 1 months payment extray payment
Yeah it would be best to phone in and ask. My father cancelled his telkom line some time ago and only had to pay a R400 cancellation fee so It's possible to get out of a telkom contract without a smack to the wallet. It's ADSL unfortunately![]()
I was quoted between 4 days and 6 weeks for the installation from the ISP. After the ISP processed my order, I received a call from the install guys to schedule the installation within a week.Haven't preordered, still waiting for my neighbor to cancel his Telkom contract as we'll be sharing.
