"Such “predictive policing”, as it is called, is based on the fact that many crimes — and criminals — have detectable patterns."

No Schitt.
A mate of mine who was a Detective in SAPS, coded a simple piece of software, that took input from reported cases and spat out trends.
"At 9 pm, if it's raining on Thursday, this area experiences a surge of vehicle break-ins." for example.
The beat Cops started using this, and crime overall was reduced by a significant margin.

But here is the caveat...
This was over 20 years ago, and no whitey was going to tell the shiny New SAPS what to do, goddammit!

Sigh.
I have heard many similar stories. Such a pity that the SAPS' detective capability was decimated due to AA and Transformation.

You are so hilarious are you having fomo? You’re out of the country (apparently) but you still whine like you’re still here.
So apparently me taking the piss out of schitt in SA is called whining.... LOL... what a retard.

I've heard SAPS is so desperately short of detectives that they each have up to 200+ cases at any time. So, surely, long before the incremental benefits of machine learning can kick in the quickest and easiest win would be to beef up our detective and forensic numbers?

I wouldn't want to be a new detective trying to start a career in the corrupt world created by the ANC. How long before you find a case linked to your boss, or someone important to someone in charge. Then you either become corrupt yourself, or you become a statistic.

This tech has existed since 2010/11 already, where a group of ex-SAPS detectives started an open-source intelligence company in Pretoria. The system gathers info from all major social media platforms and then enriches it from a variety of other sources, such as WhatsApp, Telegram and other electronic sources, and then using AI and machine learning, it is capable of predicting crime, unrest and other social evils with a surprising degree of accuracy.
This is true. I attended a conference and chatted to someone working on something like this.

It essentially allows the Police to move their resources into the required areas based on the time of day/week/year.

But this assumes the Police force is a functioning system, in RSA this would simply translate into a Tender.

True, it needs reliable data for enrichment. We stopped getting that in 2004 when the racist police minister declared crime to be a "white preoccupation" and moved from monthly crime stats to annual in order to "punish" the white people who were vocal about the alarming crime increase.

Never forget... :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:
One thing that I will say, is that, if and when I do leave here, I will leave the forum too. I don't want to even remotely become like those useless fscks sitting in New Zealand and other countries, and are on this forum, and moan about the ANC, as if it affects them, all the while sitting in a first world jib.

You leave the place, you move on, start moaning about your destination country, and the stupidity in Arsetalia with all its little regulations and laws. Nanny state on steroids!
