How many cartons of cigarettes are you allowed to take overseas?

Anyone have an idea on how many cartons you are allowed to put in your luggage? This is for Germany, I plan to take 3 cartons, not really finding any info.

I used to travel to Germany a lot before I retired. The limit on importation was 200 cigs per person .. this applied throughout the EU. But I always took more, and was never searched

I usually just scatter my cigarettes loose all over my bags and my pockets and get around 3 cartons like this
