I mean Id believe Iran under the shah, and maybe at a stretch Syria during Assad, but Afghanistan?
that's quite a hot spot, either during the American takeover of before.

shame I will never be able to visit many of these countries, find some of them fascinating,
even if they like shouting down with Israel constantly.

Sometimes another issue is that even if the regions are stable, the Western govts just issue travel warnings to indicate that they won't help in the event something goes wrong. For example, there are travel advisories against going to Iraq now even though it's much more stable than before and many more adventurous and unorthodox travellers go there. I guess the unlucky Westerner who happens to become a victim won't be helped.

Not strictly on point but this duo "spoke to me" wrt how they did New York on the cheap.

I had an incredibly similar philosophy/approach when I was there in Mid '22. Had so much fun watching this vid, tears in my eyes actually  :giggle:

I don't see how being Israeli will be an issue unless you show them the passport. If you have an SA passport, just use that and even the radicals won't bother because they know the SA Govt won't pay ransom if they kidnapp you (nobody also really views SA as a sworn enemy so also will have less incentive to do anything as a political bargaining chip). Most people can't tell an Israeli by just looking at them.

There is even a woman vlogger who did a video in Afghanistan under Taliban, I see.

I flunked Spycraft 101,

in my SA passport its clearly written ISR, so there goes my way into Afghanistan or Lebanon or Syria.

and while I don't scream Israel, all my official documents have it written quite clearly, Israel/Israeli.
so yeah, guess I cant follow my Idol Michael westen

I learnt something interesting a while ago when a Malaysian colleague showed me his passport and in the front it says "This passport is valid for all countries except Israel", and that they also couldn't travel to SA during the apartheid years.

Also discovered how insane the security at Ben Gurion airport is. You get interviewed even before getting to the check-in counter and every single person's carry-on gets thoroughly searched and swabbed. Took us 1 hour just to get through security.

possibly, but yes, indeed my Spy career ended before it began, :giggle:
I cant enter Iran or Sudan or Afghanistan to change Batteries in a Israeli spy device.

would make an interesting story, if I didnt end up like this guy

Can you not just make another SA passport and tell Home Affairs to exclude it? Home Affairs allow you to have more than one passport AFAIK.
