How many homes can get Telkom fibre

Only 8000 homes has fibre out of a potential 80000. Telkom needs to drop their entry prices and down the line speed prices or else they will just lose more and more customers to competition.

Most people will not be prepared to spend R500+ for internet when the prices for food is skyrocketing as it is at the moment.

I still don't understand how Telkom FTTx operates. Does Openserve install the fibre and Telkom lease from them, or do they install their own?

Problem I saw when I considered it is it comes bundled with ISP. No thanks

Can't wait for 2020 when they will pass my house in JHB.

Most open access networks the ISP rent lines from provider to create package, On Telkom the client "rents" the line and the ISP pays for IPC.. #IPCMUSTFALL

We not been faced with this challenge in our area yet so I am speculating a bit here.

There are a few separate issues here.

(1) Telkom installs FTTH infrastructure, and provide the Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to terminate the fibre in your home.
(2) Now you as a user have to decide what you want to use the infrastructure for, data only connection, voice only service or both.
(3) Presumably, it should be possible for you to subscribe to/convert an existing voice service over the fibre, if Telkom intend to recover the existing copper cables in the area?
(4) Presumably, you have the choice to get both your data services and voice services from Telkom or another ISP?
(5) What is not clear is if one could get a voice service over fibre from Telkom and data services from another ISP?

Can we please clarify this. I also understand that you have to use Telkom as ISP when you sign up for their fibre.

This.. The website shows data volume per line. I have not seen a line/Fibre only style package.

Wish Telkom would get a move on.My area has been light pink on their coverage map for 6 months.Busting to get fibre!

Telkom will massively churn revenue. Most areas I know are switching from Telkom copper to 3rd party fibre. It is such a pity that Telkom is not capable of using their existing infrastructure/network to run fibre instead of copper to people's houses.

Any idea to get a list of where they are installing. We just got a wireless link for 1 year, and am hoping that by that time that time is up - we will have fibre in the area we and can switch over.
