Just below 500 units a month, 3 adults, no stove, 150 l geyser on a timer.

Before our arrival in CT there were also 3 adults in the house, no geyser timer and the usage was 750 units a month.
Which geyser timer did you get and which times do you set it for?

Between 1000 and 1500 depending on season.

Split between solar and Eskom to be confirmed once solar install completed which will be hopefully by end May.

2 households. 2 geysers. Many fridges. Aircon for heating and cooling. Electric stove, oven, air fryer, microwaves. It all adds up.

I've put the geysers down to 30 mins per day each. And it's been cold here. So far the water had remained piping hot at all times. Long may it continue!I
I think we often underestimate how long a well built geyser can hold hot water for. Its a lot longer than most think.

Current average 1350kWh per month with peaks in July and January due to aircon used for both heating and cooling. Lowest consumption is normally spring and autumn. Screenshot_20220510-181507_SOLARMAN%20Smart.jpg Screenshot_20220510-181531_SOLARMAN%20Smart.jpg

Indeed. Both geysers have been replaced in the last couple of years as the old ones burst. So it should be nice new ones that are up there now.

900.....

My goodness..... That is a hell lot of power consumption.
350kWh of that is my tenant my household only uses about 1 000 kWh per month.

Large house with two water pumps for my off grid water system that has already pumped over 1.8 million litres and saved me R120k since installed in 2018.

  • 3.5 kW geyser (now on a timer from 05:00-06:00 & 17:00 - 20:00 outside solar hours, all day during solar hours)
  • 0.75 kW pool pump (12:00 - 16:00 during solar hours)
  • 15 x 10W outside lights that run through the night (off battery)
  • 2 x fridges and 1 x chest freezer. These hardly use anything.
  • Maid comes twice a week, so it's washing machine, vacuum, iron etc. (all off solar)
  • 1 x 3kW heater now in winter which we only use when the grid is up. Don't want it draining battery. This is responsible for the winter spike.
You don't realise how much power a geyser actually uses until you see it on a graph.

All the spikes close to 3 kW and above is the geyser...

Yep, that's why mine is off except for 10 hours a week. Takes 2 hours to heat up for a shower.

177 kWh last month.

I could use more, but I don't need to. I generate more than I need and am completely offgrid.

My "from grid" is from my other solar install - I've tied 2 systems together to supplement one another.

That water system supply all water for everything? How many litres are you consuming per month? I considered off grid water but our usage is way too high.

Around 450 to 550 in summer, 400 to 500 in winter. One of the perks of living in the east coast.

Yes, everything from gardening, washing, cooking and drinking. My kids now refuse drink tap water anywhere else as they say the water at other peoples homes tastes funny.

I'm lucky enough to have crystal clear potable water less than 4m deep.

Current setup is submersible pump in the well controlled by a float switch in a 2 500l water tank. When the tank is at half it turns the pump on and fills the tank. When its full the float switch turns the pump off.

From there it goes to a jet pump that has a pressure switch and connected directly to my incoming water line. The pressure switch turns on the pump whenever a tap in the house is opened.

I have a koi pond with a 10m stream that I can't seem to find a leak that is losing water so it gets topped up 3 times per day on a timer that runs for 20 minutes at a time.

We use about 30kl to 40kl of water per month.

So your house is basically built on top of an underground river?!

That is crazy lucky.

We have a wellpoint but I think it's pretty deep. Hadn't looked into using water from there for potable water or in the house. Currently just waters the garden.

Average is 1500Kwh. After reading this thread, I'm guessing that 4 large racks that are set at 31 degrees will take a lot of power?

/wonders if I can get rid of my kids creepy crawlie pets

Yes. Basically the underground section of the lourens river that is 750m from my house.

I have a thread here called well points / boreholes in CT where I documented the whole process from digging the well by hand and having it tested.
