I'm just curious on how many people here, who have never been married, are planning to do so?

I believe we go through different people in different stages of our lives. So when you start a relationship with someone, whether it lasts for 5 weeks, 5 years, or 5 decades, why do you need the formality of marriage? I believe it's an archaic practice that no longer fits into Western society.

Marriage is a mechanism designed to discourage cheating. If you are avoiding getting married, then IMO you are waiting for something better to come along so that you can comfortably ditch the person that you are currently with.

Getting married in Jan next year... Been with my fiance for 6 years now and living together for past 12 months. I don't see marriage changing our relationship but will make paper work a lot easier :)

Marriage is a choice, no one can force u into it. If it's not for you, so be it. To each their own.

While I agree that it's not really necessary, many people see it as a formal contract that binds their commitment to each other. We all know that the contract is about as valuable as the piece of paper it's written on though, because you still need to put in the effort.

nope. Not for me thanx. I have no need to wear a white dress and a party that people complain about.

but now you're talking about the wedding not the concept of marriage itself...

so you get married to ease the paperwork? holy smokes.

IMO an average wedding + honeymoon costs the same as a deposit on a house. Never mind that the wedding dress (and tuxedo for that matter) is the most expensive item of clothing you will only ever wear once.

I always say, marriage was instituted by God. So, if you are an atheist, no use in getting married. Leave it to the people that take their vows serious.

Bull. That doesn't stop people from screwing up their marriages. Since when does religion have a monopoly on an oath to another person?

I don't really wanna get married. My girlfriend really likes the idea of marriage though (at some point). I just don't see the point.

Well then stop propagating such ignorant crap then. Besides the fact that marriage predates monotheism how could you possibly know that god thought it up?

And what makes you think theists take there vows anymore seriously than anyone else? Are divorcees all closet atheists?

You know how sometimes people fall out of love? What happens if you're married to this person?

I will never marry, theres no point to it.

If I ever find someone that I want to be with for the rest of my life and they feel the same way about me then thats all we need. Marriage just gets in the way.
