I always say, marriage was instituted by God. So, if you are an atheist, no use in getting married. Leave it to the people that take their vows serious.

Yeah, if it wasn't for those atheist jokers no-one would ever get divorced....:erm:

Getting married next year

It's the idea of the permanent commitment, and sharing that commitment with friends and family (Small wedding) as well as celebrating the commitment. The commitment is there, the marriage is just formalizing it and celebrating. On a side not it's also an excuse to bring international family together which only happens at weddings - funerals don't seem to be taken as seriously

I don't think that everyone feels the need to express the commitment via marriage, and some people avoid the commitment all together

I wanted to get married twice. The 20 year old gf flatly refused the first time when I was 30 - she said I was "too old", and the second gf's parents said they don't want a drinker/smoker in their family... wtf man!. I eventually found myself the most caring and understanding afrikaans meisie, and suddenly the ex-gf wants to get back together. Jealousy is a nasty thing.

so you get married to ease the paperwork? holy smokes.

IMO an average wedding + honeymoon costs the same as a deposit on a house. Never mind that the wedding dress (and tuxedo for that matter) is the most expensive item of clothing you will only ever wear once.

Thats why we bought the house first, getting married in Nov :)

Getting married next year sometime, didn't set a date yet but she has the engagement ring.

I don't see the point of marriage though...

I just need to get that pre-nup and buy my house before D-Day.

This thread is hilarious. Looking at some of the posts back then and how some of the people are now.

I am personally torn about this. But I know i'll get married because ........... no idea why. Ive always found that most people who are anti- marriage are single(usually not by choice) or divorced.

1 question that is important here is how do you plan on spending your quiet nights(mid week) without someone to fight over a remote with? It seems kinda sad especially beyond 35.

I bet the singles are still single :D

Lol. Well, there have been a few girls between then and now, but for the most part yes, still single. However I'm reasonably happy with that so it doesn't bug me. If anything I'm annoyed at how many of the girls who seem to like me are attached, usually to guys I know (even though I'm not necessarily friends with them).

My views on marriage haven't changed much at all. Still no plans on putting any rings on any fingers, and any lady that's interested finds that out pretty soon. It's probably why they don't stick around :p

Next year most likely or after that. But we've been together for 9 years, so practically married already.

Not single, but not planning on getting married.

Can't see why except for legal reasons, which a will should sort out anyway.

Its no longer an issue, over-rated, and really not important.
However at 50 with the SO at 48, her and i have an agreement that if we are still together/alive at 65'ish then maybe we will get married just for the hell of it. :)
