Just a thought, but culture / lifestyle also plays a role. For example, clean drinking water is becoming a relatively scarce resource, yet, in the Western world we defecate into our clean drinkable water on a daily (at least) basis. No doubt, future generations will look back on this as being incredibly decadent and wasteful, not to mention disgusting.

Water doesn't get scarcer. It goes round and round. There's plenty for many dozens of billions more. Human beings and all their uses (agricultural, industrial and lavatorial) barely reach 0.5% of the planet's fresh water.

Well joelus i really don't see 6 billion people crapping in their lawns haha. I think it would be rather horrific to see everyone taking dumps on the grassy area's :D. The toilet system is more than likely the greatest invention ever.
