It would actually be really insightfull to see this article for purely SA.

I have a feeling in SA the XP number might be higher

At one of our sites there is a small computer room with about 10x P4 computers that was still running XP, it is a shared space that the public can work from aswell.

We will be rolling over to Linux Mint next week, as Windows 7 32bit doesnt work well on 1gig of ram or a P4 CPU , the site manager liked the idea especially seeing as there are no license fees and Libre office is on all of the computers.

The company has also started blocking Windows 7 updates for users with systems running Intel 7th-Gen or AMD Ryzen processors (the newest CPUs from the two companies).

A remedy to the above is to upgrade to Windows 10, said Microsoft.

That is ridiculous I would have been outradged if that happened to me especially considering you can still purchase the legal retail versions of it, I hope there is a registry patch to fix it, like the XP one.

Probably but I would rather them use something a bit more mainstream, as they plan to do some training and teach basic computer skills on them from time to time.

We moved practically our entire company (Head office aswell as POS machines) from XP to Win 10 last year. Suffice to say it was quite a leap.

I could not understand how they worked like that for so long, for even the most basic tasks (like opening a file) were taking ages to complete.

I would have still used XP, if I could find a browser that still worked on it.

Any suggestions?

(would not mind taking the desktop out of the mothballs)

One of the biggest issues with WIN 10 is the incompatibility with so many printers scanners and other office machinery. The local print shop around the corner from me has no choice. They are obliged to stick with WIN XP because the company that they lease printers etc from and who also supply some fancy software is not prepared to address the issue.

So who is at fault here? MS or the printer manufacturers/supplier?

Suppose one cannot blame MS if other companies does not want to update their crap?

If it works, why fix it?

If you have a PC running reports and sends them to a printer, why would you add expenses by upgrading it if it works? Only when it needs to be changed you change it...

I keep hearing this. I've never seen it in real life.

It is indeed the case, especially with the 64bit version of Windows 10.

For most HP and Lexmark devices, you can use the Universal Printer Driver, but there are some that you have to jump through hoops to get it to work.
