Stand up in org and say /y FO K JULLE ALMAL and see how many replies you get x that by the amount of servers and you got you figure. You dont need to worry about allies cause they are just wasting their time.

Local WOW server would be awesome but not viable. US server accomodates the whole of USA (plus some South Africans) which is a lot of people and EU accomodates the whole of Europe (plus some South Africans) which is probably even more people.

An SA server would just accomodate us which isnt a lot of people. I reckon there would have to be over a million WOW players in SA for Blizzard to even take notice of us.

Go look at the basic server bundles, and the per meg of bandwidth prices, do the maths and tell us how hosting locally will give us cheaper gameplay?

We have more than enough capacity to host a WOW server... The equipment and bandwidth is not a problem (tau1z would be able to confirm this)

What other costs would be involved... would we get a portion of the member subscriptions? how does it work? any info would be much appreciated?

This topic has been discussed so many times over...

refer to : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=157807

Loads of key points mentioned in there...
Putting a server down is the least of your problems. Its the other things which does not make it viable. Like eg. cost, peering infratructure, people / staff to maintain the servers, GM support centers etc. etc. etc.
Also you need TONS of people to populate a server. You have 2 factions to keep in mind.

I'm sure it was a pleasure.

Encouragement and enthusiasm only count for so much when your goals are unrealistic.
Getting sarcastic with someone who points out how unrealistic they are is pretty stupid.

It was directed generally at the forum... Im sure if there was enough interest, and people put in some effort then it could be done... look for solutions instead, pointing out problems is easy.

I'm just not going to bother being the lone flag barer on this one..

Whilst having a south african based server bank would be tits, the simple economic viability of it is not in blizzards best interest. They would need guaranteed figures etc to make it viable, and I think a lot of players will stick with their existing EU/USA communities than be forced to reroll on a "local only" server.

Sadly it will be nothing more than a pipe dream having a server on our own shores. On the upside, theoretically bandwidth prices should be dropping soon, thus making it a bit more affordable for others.
