How MTN steals your money with 3G

On the 2nd of April 2007, I decided to upgrade my 350Meg bundle to 1Gig + 1Gig Promo...
I thought this would be a simple job, but the call centre (808) did not even know about the offer!, niether did the MTNSP main branch!.

The Package was added on the 2nd and according to the call centre the package went through (on the second). The only way I could confirm that the data was available, was through MTNActive online. And there it was! 2 Gigs for use on the 3rd of April, later that day I decided to download approximately 700megs. I did not worry about anything, the data was confirmed as loaded!

Two weeks later on the 12th of April, I checked my account again, AND MTN CHARGED ME ABOUT R900 FOR THE DATA I HAD DOWNLOADED ON THE 3RD.!

I have been trying now for nearly two months to get my money back - TO NO AVAIL!

Every time I phone the billing department on 808 I just get empty promises!!!!!!
For reference here are the times I contacted MTNSP - with NO ANSWER!

Well the 11th is when it resets every month. I can't understand why the system won't update before then but I know what you mean. I had similar problems!

I always check 16202 for balance (also to see if the bundles ARE actually there). Remember there is a one day delay on your account so when you check it will be everything used from the previous day and not be up to date.

As for the people on the other end of the line (Help) -- don't bother they don't know wtf is going on half the time. Just know that after the 11th at midnight (12th) is when it resets. :rolleyes:

And don't believe anything that the operators tell you because its bull$hit mostly and they don't really care.

Yup, I know what you are saying...... I tried Hellopeter early this morning and had no response yet, all I know is that I will be telling everyone NOT to sign a contract with them, and rather look at VODACOM Prepaid, it is less of a hassle.

As for complaining it gets you NOWHERE with MTN, so my next step will be contacting the DTI and lodge a complaint with thier consumer line, I will probably get a quicker response through them!

The step after that is to lodge the case at the Small Claims Court.....

I've noticed that MTN seems to be gathering quite a few complaints recently from all quarters. Either there is a campaign of sorts or something is wrong.
Where is MTNDataDude (version 1) when you need him?

MTN_Data Dude is/was helpfull, but he can only do so much....It seems like the so-called "managers" he forwarded my information to, umm what was it.... THREE TIMES! are the INCOMPETENT ONES!

And so far have not heard anything.........

Still Waiting - Nothing on Hellopeter either - all the other new comments to MTN were answered!

Are there any legal guys out there? - what legal route can I take? I have all the evidence from MTN Active on about 5 documents including the proof of thier incompetence.......

they owe me a credit on a matter closed already , do you think they'll acknowledge what they owe you , hell no chyna ..
remember they doing YOU a favour by providing you with a service , just another corporate who will stop at nothing to make a buck.

GUESS WHAT!? - complained on HELLOPETER a week ago, got a confirmation that the billing info was sent to the "Billing department" AGAIN - 6th time lucky I suppose....

STILL NOTHING! and waiting!

...look at VODACOM Prepaid, it is less of a hassle.

VC PAYG def is better in terms of data but dont think that'll it be smooth sailing. I joined them 2 months ago for data use and both of the months they have sucked my remaining airtime right out of my account ( given its only about R9/mnth but still ). Other than that good speeds and cheaper prices.
