(If you plan to pay monthly, use the cash value of the car)

I need to get a cheap manual for the kids to learn on so maybe r100k, less if I can.

Not cheaper to get them to learn with a driving school - most still have manual cars?

They're having lessons as well.

Having an inexpensive manual gives them something to practice in and gives them wheels of their own to fight over when they've got their licenses.

Planning to squeeze many more years out of my current car until it falls apart. By then something like a Polo will probably be R1m. So let's say R1m

I don't, my Touareg is paid off in a year and it will stay for quite some time, as long as possible until it needs to be replaced.

Not planning on buying a car ever again if I can away with it. Have a Defender, which is our "everyday" car and it's a classic so doesn't look "old" or out of place.

As fellow defender driver I fully support this decision!

Probably the best advice I've heard in a long time. I suspect that when my current daily driver reaches the end of it's days, my 27 year old Landy will still be chugging along.

Was hoping my current car would be with me for the next 10+ years, but the way things are looking, I should cut my losses.

My next car will be the cheapest reliable 6-speed manual diesel car with sensible mileage I can find (so somewhere between R70 000 and R120 000). I've had two luxury cars in my life and enjoyed them, but now there are better ways to use the money than buying another one.
