Hello, I'm a little uninformed with regards to this.
I see on google maps that Durban is +-600Km from JHB, how much petrol would that cost.
And tolls?

My car is a 1997 Toyota conquest.
Thx for the feedback.

Are you changing gears smoothly enough to undergo the trip? I guess you won't need to change gears much here though.

But on a serious note, what is the calculation in terms of petrol...and what is the cost associated with toll roads?
Thx

Usually like a buck a km is a good starting point for raw cost. Bit less if you're just counting fuel and not tyres/service.

A tank of fuel plus tolls and food. I'd say R1000 one way. Plus lunch money for cops if you gonna floor your Conquest.

Surely a conquest doesn't use that much fuel?

So 1 tank either way - and I *think* tolls are R130.00 each way?

So R650.00 per tank and R130.00 tolls = R780.00 (one way) x 2 = R1,560.00

Nobody here is in a position to compute the answer with accuracy. The OP omits to provide the crucial bit - what is his vehicle's fuel consumption??!

For an old car it will probably do about 9l/100 +-, so it will use 54 Litres which will be R694.44 one way.

Tolls came to R170+- last time I went in May, but may have increased.
R8.5
R37
R47
R50
R36

Something like that so R864.44

OP will probably use a little over a Tank so probably close on R700-800 for fuel. As for Toll Fees

De Hoek = Heidelberg – Villiers R36
Wilge = Villiers – Warden R50
Tugela = Warden – Frere R53
Mooi = Frere – Cedara R37
Mariannhill = Key Ridge – Paradise Valley R8.50

Total - R184.50

So a Rounded estimate of about R1000 for one way...

Thank you very much for warning those of us down here that you are on your way... :D

Drive safely, and hopefully the gear change story will be a thing of the past by the time you reach Durbsnall, and it's nutcase Taxi and Golf GTi drivers! :p

I have a smoking old Range Rover that has something wrong with the drive system as well, I am currently getting about half a kilometer to 1 litre of fuel.
My car is blue, and has brand new tires on.

My question is this, would I make it down to Durban? Is there enough fuel stations?
