How much does it cost to get a gun license

I Don't think there is a specific thread regarding license renewals, if so, please direct me there.

I new to renew my firearm license soon, and would like someone with experience or who has done this recently, to please reach out.
I used the same motivation to renew my handgun license in 2023 as when I applied for it the first time.

I also used the same motivation when I applied for the new 6.5x55 Sauer I had replaced under a recall as when I applied the first time. For this one, I only added a one-pager explaining why I had the exact same rifle removed from my name and why I am applying now for the same one again. Obviously, they have different serial numbers.

Both were approved without issues.

I have noticed this now for the 3rd time. When I applied for the 6.5x55 in 2022 they used the same photos from my previous applications from 2018. When I renewed my Glock in 2023 they again used the photos from 2018 and now the latest one for the new 6.5x55 they used the same photos again. Even though I supplied new photos every time.

Hey. Thanks for the info, appreciate it!

I left the farm early last night. They got another 4 jakkal and one iron pig.

I went to my DFO this morning to get a temporary license print out. Admin lady says office is closed all week due to elections but she took the details and luckily it was already printed and on the desk. So just a heads up for anyone planning a visit, check before you go if it's open or not.

My license was approved 7 March. Was at the DFO last week, and still no card. Luckily we have the printouts to fall back on. A couple of years ago we didn't have the option.

Im at 8 weeks and still waiting

My DFO told me not a single card has been printed since Feb.

Her advise is to make good colour copies of the orginal have them certified at SAPS(as many as you want). You can then laminate the orginal and store in the safe.

My DFO does not have acolour printer, so I have a black/white printout. Both lic and comp
Then I guess high res copy of what you have is all you can do. I think making sure you certify is the primary goal.

I've got certified copies in all our vehicles, 1 in my work desk, and one that I've tired to fold as neatly as possible so it fits in a back pocket. It's a drag not having the card, I've been waiting since early Feb.

For those waiting and wondering, and although it's always different, here's an idea of my waiting times for each major step...

Impressive. Given the public holidays and weekends its sub 60 days. Where are you based? I lodged my competency application with SAPS yesterday.

Hermanus. Funny how the longest time period was getting it off of my DFOs desk. They said on my previous applications that they go to Provincial once a week so not sure if it sat at the desk or just wasn’t logged in at the other end. Still, sub 3 months is pretty good. Amazing how it feels like 3 years though :p

Good luck with your application. Hope it goes quickly.

I'm still stuck @ Recv CFR, coincidentally on the same date as you ie 19/04/2024.
Application submitted to DFO on 12/03... so much for my DFO and Provincial being efficient.

That's a bummer. I don't know how you are checking, but for me the Safari app was very inconsistent so I just checked the SAPS website directly instead.
