How much does it cost to get a gun license

Just submitted a new application about 2 weeks ago, and it finally showed up on the SAPS website and Where's my App app this morning. Now the incessant wait and refresh begins....

Also working on 2 more applications, one of which is an additional license, that one will be interesting.

So this morning I was told for an additional license, the application must be of the same section as the main license holder (ie. both should be section 15, or both should be section 16, etc.). This doesn't really make sense. For one thing, and I may be wrong here, I've not found anywhere where this is stipulated. For another, why does it matter what the reason or use case is for which each person is applying va another? Lawful use is still lawful use. Also, let's think about this in self defense terms, if you can only have an additional licese as S13 on a firearm already licensed as S13, it means only one person could defend themselves at a time with that firearm. How does that make sense? So if I have a S16 firearm, say smaller lighter caliber than my primary S13, my wife may not license it for self defence? Does not compute.

I know it's always better for each person to have their own firearm for every use case, more is always better, but sometimes there are reasons why that is not feasible.

I was also told it will be a ****up come renewal time since they claim when one license needs to be renewed it will be a problem since it will have moved to the other person, and vice versa when you try to renew the 2nd license.
This tells me that they removed the original license holder and it is in fact not an additional license application- which means a person could potentially be walking around with an invalid license and not know it - so basically they made a ****up of the additional license application. Let's hope this is not the case with my application.

Now I sincerely hope this is just scare tactics by the DFOs but I guess I will know soon enough. Went ahead with both applications anyway.

Like I said, gonna be real interesting.

We still want to do it, but how I understand it, everything has to fit with the original license.

So my semi shotgun, Sec 16.

If I want my father to fully move with with it without me, the shared license has to fit the exact same requirements as mine.
I guess for this example, section 16 is a copout.

So if I wanted to share my P07 with a wife thing, then it has to be on sec 13 too.
Cause the original license was approved on sec 13.

Just saying this is how I understand it.

My question is why? What is the reasoning behind this?

Might be some elementary kak of the firearm was approved to go out in to the world as a section 13, so it must stay as a sec 13.

I know where some people when they renewed set their apps to sec 16 form sec 15, only to come back as sec 15 again.

So will be working with your feedback on this when we do ours.

I can see some issues around validity times.

Let's say primary license is S13. Then it would make no sense having the secondary license as S15 or 16 as they will be valid longer than the primary, and without the primary they are invalid.

Overall it all sounds like a mess.

From a renewal perspective I can kind of, sort of, understand, it's a renewal, not a new application. But for an additional licence as a new application... It eludes me.

I hope I will have positive feedback, I really don't want to be redoing this.

Don't quote me on this but I did read somewhere the additional licence expires should the original not be renewed and/or the firearm sold or so forth. So that I can understand, but those are very specific conditions and deals with the validity of the licenses after they have been issued, not with the validity of the application in the first place.

In my mind, should be like a "section 12", shared license.
Basically all the same stuff as primary including expiry. Just your pic and details.

Please let us know how it goes

I have heard of some people applying for an additional license and then the FA and license gets moved to the second user completely

CFR is a shitshow,
