I never tip and I can't see any logic in doing so. The petrol attendants are paid a salary ...
According to the article in OP,
"Minimum wage data from 1 September shows that attendants earn around R36.10 per hour or R1,624.50 per week."
I wonder how anyone manages to live on that.

I've often checked my own tyre pressures and I never let them check my oil or water. I don't trust them or their equipment (carry my own tyre pressure gauge because on several occasions I've ended up with over or under inflated tyres). I also often tell them to leave my windows dirty. I'm not a lazy ass but why tip? They get paid a salary to do their jobs. I'd actually be pleased if we got rid of petrol attendants altogether so we can do it all ourselves. Why should we be paying a premium for something we can do ourselves like overseas?
I also use my own but you do realise that you're supposed to check the pressures when the tyres are cold, so no reason to carry the gauge with you, you can leave it at home. I use a pump plugged into the cigarette lighter socket.

The last time I was tipped in my life was when I was bartending as a student, nowadays, especially since lockdown, I am not even getting paid.

I have to ask,

Engen petrol pump attendants and Quickshop cashiers will be assigned a lanyard with a QR code and number. They will be required to register for a Telkom Pay Wallet using WhatsApp and link their profile to their QR codes.

is there a party scoring a percentage off the tipping charge, and what is this percentage?

How much drivers tip petrol attendants in South Africa

The culture of tipping in South Africa reaches almost every facet of our services industry, with Telkom and Engen recently launching a new feature designed for tipping petrol attendants and Quickshop cashiers at Engen service stations.

I specifically watch how he/she washes my front windscreen, I found few can do it carefully and prperly, I I usually tip those. Also if I don't put in fuel but just air, and I see the person is tired and must just do this, I tip him/her.

If I spot carelessness, no tip.

If they clean my window and ask to check tires etc I usually do R15 -20 if they do the bare minimum I just pay the fuel. Its getting harder though as I hardly pay with cash anymore so small denominations are in short supply.
I don't like them doing the windscreen. Just delays me.

Except that's not it. Their duties also include everything you believe they're not supposed to do and they're paid to do it.
yes.gif Now I know if I need my windscreen washed, oil checked etc... it's free without having to fill up. They are paid after all to serve the community.

I don’t get a tip for doing my job. I haven’t seen an increase in a while either.

I wont tip you if you earn a salary for doing your bloody job. Grow up and stop expecting charity.

Free? A portion of every litre of petrol pumped includes a retail margin that pays their wages.

If you're so sure that their responsibilities do not, as you claimed, include offering to clean your windows or check your oil and/or your tyre pressure then ask them what training they receive. That might offer some insight and you won't even have to get your lazy ass out of your car to do so. You just need to roll down the window. ;)

I think you are misunderstanding. So you are saying I can drive any car to a service station ( or a petrol station as you call it ) and let them wash my windscreen and do whatever without paying. Sure probably ... but I won't feel right not to compensate them.

Here we go. You said:
The petrol attendants are there to fill your car ... that's it.
You're incorrect. Part of their responsibilities include offering to clean your windows, check your oil, and/or your tyre.
